GAME OVER. Or is it? MIGW may have finished, but we’re still reeling from the rush of Urban Play School. Here’s a recap of the five colorful games that highlighted what it’s like to be a student at RMIT.

Stacker by Khatim Javed Dar

Stack the boxes as high as you can... creatively. It’s all about finding that balance. As uni, work, and other aspects of life piled up, players were still able to reach the top, getting that “High Distinction.”

Collectors by Lester Asperga

Runner or defender, the goal is to collect the tokens, which represent RMIT’s Ways of WellBeing. Post-adrenaline, players paused and thought of ways to care for themselves and others.

Find Me Here by Elizabeth Amanda

A treasure hunt where players were encouraged to slow down and be thoughtful. Players found cards that represented themselves, and then shared connections and expressed appreciation through relaxed discussions, notes and drawings.

Symphony With by Gin Lin and Nicholas Leong

Players tapped into curiosity and excitement through sound, touch and collaboration. The sound only activates when players are in contact. As they continued to navigate the sound sculptures, pure joy erupted.

Yomeci Orchestra by Uyen Nguyen

From a suite of games that highlight urban play (Yomeci: You, me, and the city), the Orchestra saw players dance and play instruments to match energies, have a musical tug of war, and then switch sides to have another go.

Stacker

By Khatim Javed Dar

A stacking game with a twist. How low can you go to get to the highest?

Find Me Here

By Elizabeth Amanda

A tender treasure hunt for letters. Find a friend, and maybe even yourself.

Collectors

By Lester Dvinagracia Asperga

Based on the Filipino street game Patintero, set new rules and take what’s rightfully yours!

Symphony With

By Gin Lin and Nicholas Leong

Let the sound lead you and you might just land on new connections.

Yomeci Orchestra

By Uyen Nguyen

Walk, hop, skip, or jump to compose a tune. Pick up an instrument and serenade passerby.

Hit pause for a second. Ever wondered, why do we play games? And how did we get here?

As RMIT Creative gears up for Melbourne International Games Week, take a look at selected analogue highlights from the long and winding history of games, the oldest form of human social interaction.

All this has led to this moment... where you decide to test your friendship by throwing in that +4 and Uno reverse card combo.
If you’re ready to win it all (or lose it all), join us for Urban Play School. A project presented by RMIT Creative x Future Play Lab.

ntroducing Larissa MacFarlane – Artist Mentor

We Belong: Beyond accessibility arts project

I wanted to be the mentor on this project because it just sounds exciting. Disability culture is still so unexplored and diverse, and I’m looking forward to coming together and seeing how other Disabled artists explore our unique culture and identity. Disabled artists are often isolated from each other and this mentorship is about bringing us together, sharing knowledge, and building culture and community. It’s sharing the wisdom and the years of disability experience. It’s about identifying, standing up, being proud of who you are, valuing that and leading by example.
