Commemorate #IWD2021 and learn more about the history of women's liberation through FREE screening of three films at The Capitol Theatre.
Robin Laurie and Margot Nash’s experimental short, We Aim To Please (1976) erotically challenged the mid 90's conventional male gaze, while on a similar wavelength, Melbourne filmmaker Catherine Dwyer’s directorial debut Brazen Hussies (2020) tells the story of the exceptional women’s liberation movement that took storm in Australia.
These films will be screened next Thursday 11 March, followed by a discussion regarding the relevance of Brazen Hussies to younger womxn today, while unpacking how gender equity, diversity and transgenderism intersect with its legacy.
On Friday 12 March The Capitol will screen the documentary She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry (2014), all about the birth of the women’s liberation movement in the US.
