AR exhibition "Närpes 2093"
MeMo has been involved in 3D scanning the city of Närpes for this exhibition.
Närpes is a small town on Finland's west coast with a humble population of 9,502. Närpes survives mostly on farming and production of large trucks.
The augmented reality "holographic" exhibiton feature modified 3D scans, that illustrate what the small town will look like in the future...or according to the organizer Rymdfisk: "the past".
The exhibition is set in the future in the year 2093 and show never before seen holograms from Närpes very rich, but very violent history.
The history of Närpes has gone trough a lot in 100 years. Unfortunately there is not much documentation that has survived the big cyborg-war in 2056-2065 witch is more commonly known as "the lost decade".
Before and after the lost decade there are however a lot of documentation, for example a hologram of the city center in 2040 "The golden days " and the rebuilding of bridges and construction of war monuments in 2070.
The exhibition is on display until the end of august 31.8.2018 in Mittistan Närpes Finland
Why don´t you go and have a look?
Making a 3D-model of Närpes citycenter
Närpes city center have now gone trough a very thorough MeMo-treatment with an exotic mixture of photogrammetry and laserscanning.
Now both Närpes and we are tired and we are now going to start processing the 3D-model of Närpes city center.
to be continued...:)

Modern measuring techniques result in highly detailed 3D models. These models are vital tools in construction, architecture, and other areas where exact measuring is needed.
However, they can also be used to create fantasy worlds and distort reality in interesting ways. That is why the same techniques are also used in visual effects and video games.
MeMo is a research institute at Aalto University experimenting with 3D technologies in order to make groundbreaking innovations.
By following MeMo 3D Experiments, you will get a sneak peak of the ongoing projects.
