Throughout the duration of camp, we spent all day with our campers and their siblings doing various activities such as swimming at the pool, fishing at the lake, indoor games and square dancing, crafts, and Bible class. We had a blast getting to love on and care for our campers, while giving the families respite and encouragement!

Joni & Friends had a “split dinner” night in which the parents of the campers were treated to a nice dinner, while the campers enjoyed pizza and messy outdoor games that involved water balloons and shaving cream!

⭐️Student Spotlight Sunday⭐️

Meet Anissa Dada!

Hometown📍: Spring, Texas

Undergraduate Degree🎓: Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health and Business Minor from the University of Texas at Austin

Top Specialty🩺: I find it hard to choose just one speciality, so the top 3 that I am interested in are Dermatology, Women’s Health, and Psychiatry. I have enjoyed learning about every part of the body, truthfully, which is why I find it hard to choose. These three options fulfill different interest of mine, but one thing they have in common is the fact that I will be able to build strong relationships with my patients. I am excited to see how clinical rotations help me to solidify my decision!

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: My favorite part of this program is how much support we have from our faculty and other classmates. I have met some of my lifelong friends in this program, which I am truly grateful for. Additionally, I feel like the layered learning aspect or our curriculum has helped me learn so much in a short time.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I am the first person in my family to graduate from a 4-year university/go to grad school! I also love to travel and enjoy planning trips with my friends and family when we have time off :)

Top Specialty🩺: When I graduate, I would love to work in the emergency department. I enjoy the fast paced environment and having to think quickly. After gaining a few years of experience, I hope to work at a level 1 trauma center.

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: I enjoy the small class size and how supportive everyone is of each other. This has allowed me to develop great friendships that will continue after PA school. I also love the opportunity to participate in mission trips with the program!

Fun fact about yourself🤩: In undergrad, I biked across Texas with the HSU Leadership Program to raise awareness for cancer!

⭐️Student Spotlight Sunday⭐️

Meet Briley Taylor!

Hometown📍: Lewisville, TX

Undergraduate Degree🎓: Health Science Studies from Baylor University

Top Specialty🩺: I have always been most interested in Emergency Medicine. I enjoy the hospital setting and working in a quick paced environment. While there is repetition in the ED, there is also a wide variety of cases that come in and you never know what you will see which adds a level of excitement. I want to care for people’s physical and emotional needs during a critical time in their life. While that has always been #1 for me, recently I have been very interested in neurology. Neurology consists of intricate and challenging cases. The brain, spinal cord and nerves are fascinating to me and I would love to use this interest to improve people’s quality of life and change their life for the better.

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: The staff at HSU is my favorite part of the program. I would not be where I am today without the support and encouragement of each staff member. I have learned so much from them academically, but also what it means to be a PA who is working for a greater purpose. They are humble and hard working. I am forever appreciative of the staff at HSU and the impact they have made on my life.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I love traveling and want to eventually work in disaster relief and use emergency medicine skills to help people across the world!

Meet Trevor Doege!

Hometown📍: Monahans, Texas

Undergraduate Degree🎓: BS in Biology from Hardin-Simmons University

Top Specialty🩺: I am interested in orthopedics because through my football career I have seen many orthopedic providers for various injuries and I want to have the same impact on young athletes that these providers had on me. I am also interested in cardiology because I really enjoyed learning how to read EKG’s.

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: I have really enjoyed getting to know my classmates and the personal growth we have all experienced together.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I was a tight end for the football team at HSU for all four years I was in undergrad.

Meet Tim Tran!

Undergraduate Degree🎓: BS in Biology at St. Mary’s University

Top Specialty🩺: I’m leaning towards critical care because I love the idea of being able to care for some of the sickest patients while using both procedural skills and medical decision making.

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: Honestly the small class size. I was able to make close friends within the first few days of starting the program. The faculty also know us well and care about each of our individual wellbeing along with that of the whole class. Everybody looks out for each other & are willing to help whenever something pops up.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I have played piano and violin for about 18 years, most of those as part of a choir. Fun fact, I can’t sing at all, so I just play piano & violin for the choir.

Top Specialty🩺: I don’t know yet, I’m hoping it will call to me in clinical rotations! I just know that I want to help patients all across the board.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I love to camp, hike, read, and eat!! Coming from a family who owns 9 restaurants has made me appreciate good food and the work ethic that goes into running a business.

Top Specialty🩺: My top specialty is either geriatrics or trauma. I have always loved working with elders and connect with them very well. I also enjoy a fast pace environment and feel I could make a difference in trauma.

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: My favorite part of the HSU program is the people. Everyone is so supportive and kind. The small class size allow you to get to know fellow classmates and faculty very well.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: I am a triplet! I have two sisters, one is one minute older than me and the other one is one minute younger than me.

Undergraduate Degree🎓: I graduated with a BS in Biology from Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City, OK.

Top Specialty🩺: As of right now I am still unsure of which specialty I want to go into. So far I have found interest in Endocrinology, Dermatology, and Orthopedics, but am looking forward to experiencing different areas of medicine during our Clinical Rotations to find out what the Lord will call me into!

Favorite part of Hardin-Simmons PA program🤠: I am convinced that the HSU PA Program has the most supportive and “in your corner” faculty/staff of any program. It’s a blessing to have healthcare professionals/instructors that are so willing to help you, challenge you, and who are praying for your success.

Fun fact about yourself🤩: My Fiancé and I share the same birthday (including year), and were born in the same hospital!
