We had a great time in Birmingham, Alabama at the National Alpha Chi Convention. Several members won awards and our chapter was recognized for the success of our sock drive. Thank you to everyone who donated (we won a big sock)! Now, I am trying to convince Dr. Huddleston to hang it up in her office😂

Double Congratulations to Conner Crawford! He was just named a Fulbright Scholar for 2023-2024. He will be an English Teaching Assistant in Kyrgyzstan. Also, he was recently awarded the Alpha Chi Honor Society Dr. Patricia Williams Chapter Member of the Year for our chapter. Conner served as Vice President for our chapter for one semester and then as President for the next five semesters. We are proud of you Conner!

Emma Harper was part of our ACU Alpha Chi Honor Society delegation that went to the convention in Albuquerque, NM, a few weeks ago. She presented her research featured in this Optimist article at the convention.

We are in Albuquerque, NM, for the national convention, and it’s off to a great start! Region I scholarship winners were announced last night. Two of the three recipients are ACU students. ACU students are Ashlee Reed and Johnni Fuller. In the picture, Ashlee is with the other winner, Noah del Angel, from Texas State University.

Another congratulations is in order. Skye Gill received the news while in the van to the convention that she has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship!

We are all busy with the end of the semester, but I wanted to let you know about a few meaningful opportunities coming up this week. First, our chapter of Alpha Chi will be hosting a Blood Drive on Friday afternoon (12:00-5:00 p.m.) in the Honors College in Zellner Hall on the Abilene campus. You can earn chapel credit for this. On Sunday afternoon, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. we will be hosting a scholarly discussion with Dr. Mikee Delony and movie viewing of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" also in the Honors College. (Previously we said that we could offer chapel credit for this, but we cannot.) These opportunities are open for everyone, not just Alpha Chi members.

You will receive reminder emails the days of all of these events
this week! I do realize we have a large number of online student members and you may not be able to participate in these activities in person. However, you can donate blood sometime this week and send in selfies of the donation. We will post them on our website!

Delegates from our chapter recently attended the Alpha Chi National Convention in Austin, Texas. Your fellow chapter members represented all of you very well. Here are a few pictures you may enjoy. Next year we will be in Albuquerque, NM, and we would love for you to be a delegate.

As a reminder, officer interest forms are due on Friday as well.

Congratulations to our graduating students! Remember that all of you are eligible to wear the blue and green honor cords during graduation. These can be purchased at the ACU Campus Store.

Alpha Chi presents...the Vaccine Roadshow! Tonight! If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccines or want to be able to answer friends' and family's basic questions, zoom in and join Dr. Diana Flanagan (immunologist), Dr. Autumn Sutherlin (biochemist), and Dr. Jennifer Huddleston (microbiologist) as they discuss the science behind the vaccines on Zoom. They will answer common questions such as "What is an mRNA vaccine?" and "What is the difference between the mRNA vaccines and the J&J vaccines?" There will also be plenty of time to ask your own questions.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, and it's not limited to members of Alpha Chi! You can help serve by encouraging friends and family to join if they have questions as well.

We will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday (TONIGHT) on Zoom. Email Dr. Huddleston ([email protected]) for a calendar invite with the Zoom link.

Congratulations to our chapter member and newest Fulbright grantee, Autumn Vaught! Autumn is a senior majoring in English and Spanish secondary education and has been named a Fulbright grantee for 2021-22. She will serve as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Spain.

Congratulations to Courtney Cook! We attended the virtual Alpha Chi National Convention last week and she won the Bill Short Prize in World Literature for the presentation titled “In Defense of the Art: How Literary Fiction Promotes Empathy.”
