Today we celebrated Dr. Carisse Mickey Berryhill’s 50 years of service to Christian Higher Education with a retirement reception in her honor. She has served admirably on the faculties of Lubbock Christian University, Harding School of Theology, and Abilene Christian University since 1975. Today is also her 75th birthday! Happy Birthday and Happy Trails, Carisse. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do for our university, our discipline, and our fellowship.

This Monday, we had the pleasure of hosting the annual Friends of the Library Dinner, featuring New York Times bestselling author Daniel Nayeri, whose talk engaged us in an encouraging conversation on the idea of home. We also had the honor of recognizing Carisse Berryhill and DeDe James for their dedicated service to the ACU Library and our community. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, reflection, and celebration. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we look forward to seeing you again next year!

We are pleased to announce that tickets are now available for the 2025 Friends of ACU Library Dinner, which will be held in the ACU Brown Library's Packer Forum on Monday, February 25th, at 6pm. This year's event is entitled "Stories That Carry Us Home," and we will welcome to campus New York Times bestselling author Daniel Nayeri, whose remarkable journey from Iranian refugee to celebrated publisher and writer embodies the transformative power of storytelling.

Daniel Nayeri is the author of the critically acclaimed "Everything Sad Is Untrue (a true story)," winner of a Newbery award, the Michael L. Printz Award, and the Christopher Award. Born in Iran and fleeing to Oklahoma as a child, Nayeri's experience as a refugee, pastor’s son, and former professional pastry chef infuses his storytelling with rich cultural insights and profound spiritual wisdom. His work as the publisher of Odd Dot, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, demonstrates his commitment to innovative storytelling and educational content that challenges young minds.

The evening promises to be a celebration of literature’s capacity to bridge cultures, foster understanding, and illuminate the shared human experience that binds us all together. Tickets are $40 per person, and table sponsorships can be reserved for $350. Table sponsors will be recognized in the evening's program and receive two autographed copies of Nayeri's latest book, The Many Assassinations of Samir, the Seller of Dreams.

The ACU Brown Library staff gathered today at Abilene’s historic Swenson House for our annual Christmas party. This year’s theme was Christmas Junk, and the wonderful food catered by Chef Sheasby Catering, LLC was “refined and elevated junk food.” We then held a white elephant gift exchange using discards and deaccessioned items from the library’s collections.

The ACU Brown Library deeply values and honors its friends at sister institutions from around the country. Together, we work to preserve and disseminate the enormous array of primary sources that tell the history of the Stone-Campbell Movement. This weekend, ACU Library Dean James Wiser traveled to Oklahoma Christian University's Beam Library to begin the process of transitioning numerous archival resources to the ACU Brown Library. We thank OCU's provost Brian Starr and Library Director Melanie Spoon for their work in making sure these collections are maintained for generations to come.

Today is Dr. Stephen Rektenwald’s last day at ACU, as he leaves the Creative and Academic Technology team and his role as the CAT team’s Assistant Director. He is joining the ministry staff at Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. On Wednesday, we did not say “goodbye,” but instead we said “see you around.” We are grateful for his over seven years of service and wish him nothing but the best as he serves in his new role.
