"Every day, our colleges prepare our region’s students to earn credentials that open doors to local careers, strong wages and upward mobility."

Check out this article recently co-authored by our very own President Adam Hutchison, along with presidents from other Southwest Virginia community colleges, in Cardinal News!

The article highlights the vital role community colleges, like VHCC, play as "dynamic engines of economic opportunity, workforce innovation and community growth." We're committed to providing exceptional educational pathways that enrich lives and strengthen our communities right here in Southwest Virginia.

VHCC recently joined area community colleges to present collective data about meeting the workforce needs of area healthcare providers! This collaborative effort is part of the Southwest Virginia Health Careers and Workforce Partnership, working to fill gaps in existing training opportunities.

As Dr. Hutchison, VHCC President, noted, "Among our collective community colleges, we'll graduate almost 200 nurses each spring, but the need is even greater than that. We're proud that community college students come back home and work in our region. We're not exporting students. We're training those to stay here, live here, and take care of our families."

Branded the Southwest Virginia Health Careers and Workforce Partnership, organizers held their second meeting Tuesday, focusing on the programs of area public schools, community colleges and universities.

After a fantastic first week last week for VHCC Upward Bound, they’re officially in Career Week!

Today, UB students learned about forces, specifically friction and gravity, from Maria Salgado, an engineer by trade who serves as Northwood High School’s Spanish teacher.

Then, students were surprised with a masterclass in professional presentation from none other than... Thanos (aka Dr. Whisman, our Vice President of Instruction and Student Services)! He gave a great demonstration on how to tie a tie.

This summer’s theme is the Upward Bound Infinity Wars, where students explore the “stones” of the Avenger series through Math, English, Science, and more. We’re so excited to see all the great things they’re accomplishing and hope they have an amazing Summer Academy!
