Adams State is deeply saddened by the loss of alumnus Erik Melgoza, who inspired many Alamosa High School athletes after being named athletic director there in 2018.

The Adams State Alumni Relations
team sends condolences to the family and friends of Dennis Lopez including his
wife, Sally, and sons, Jose, Juan Carlos, and Ricardo. The unexpected death of
Dennis Lopez has left a dark pall over the University. Dennis, class of 1974
and 1978, received the 2021 Billy Adams Award because of the many contributions
to his alma mater and his willingness to always dedicate his time to the Alumni
Association. Dennis was a kind soul and he will be missed.
