In 2020, Albany Law received a gift from trustee Kimberly C. (K.C.) Petillo-Décossard ’05 and her husband, Sakis Décossard, to establish the Women’s Leadership Initiative. The collaborative effort between the Career and Professional Development Center and Office of Alumni Engagement supports an annual group of fellows, hosts leadership trainings, and other networking opportunities.
Petillo-Décossard was honored by the NY Law Journal for this work in summer 2023.
“Albany Law School’s Women’s Leadership Initiative has been one of the joys of my career – an opportunity to redefine the face of the legal industry by advancing the leadership of our remarkable law students,” Petillo-Décossard said. “The program has relied on so many impressive people offering their incredible ideas, valuable time, programmatic support, and financial assistance.”
You don't have to wander far from campus before finding yourself near places Kate Stoneman lived, worked, and studied. Follow our video tour to visit a few!
134 S Swan Street, Kate’s apartment
This building sits just a few steps from the New York State Museum and Empire State Plaza. Stoneman lived here for much of her life, from when she was a student at Albany Law in the late 1800s, through her time as a board member of the state Suffrage Association and later work to pass women’s equality legislation. She also lived here during her years as a poll watcher.
192 Swan Street, now S Swan, Lincoln Park area
Though the physical building is no longer here, Stoneman is noted to have lived at 192 Swan Street during her time teaching at the Normal School. Lincoln Park is now occupying much of this space.
69 State Street
Stoneman began working as a law clerk for Albany attorney Worthington W. Frothingham starting in 1882. She did this while still teaching at the State Normal School.
135 Western Avenue
This area was once home to the NY Normal School, where Stoneman taught and studied law at night.
Now, the location is home to UAlbany’s downtown campus and the former Albany High School building, which will soon be converted into UAlbany’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

What a great year. See you in 2024!
Marie-Therese Wittie (Made by Headliner).mp4
Marie-Therese Witte ‘24 is leading the oldest student-led law review in the nation. As you might imagine, the Albany Law Review has quite an interesting history. When it began, it also served as a news source for campus happenings and updates. It was decades before the internet, after all.
Witte, a former Latin and Spanish teacher, is grateful to be part of the community as a non-traditional student and is taking advantage of many aspects of the student experience.
The Albany Law Review is a quarterly law review edited by students at Albany Law School. The Albany Law Review is one of three student-edited law journals published by the school.
