The Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Learning, and Online Education (CATLOE) at UAlbany offers workshops for graduate students that provide them with resources and support as they prepare to apply for faculty positions. Graduate students at all stages are encouraged to participate in these workshops.
The following workshop, 'Secrets of an Excellent Job Talk,' will be taking place on Wednesday, February 28th, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm over Zoom.
Workshop description: "Whether you are interviewing for a position that focuses on teaching or research, you are likely going to be asked to give the “job talk,” where you share your research with the search committee and other attendees. But what are you really being asked to do when you give the job talk? If you don’t know the secrets of the job talk, you risk confusing or boring your audience during this crucial part of the on-campus or extended interview. In this interactive workshop you’ll learn how to create a job talk that impresses the audience and communicates more than just your research. You will have an opportunity to begin planning for the job talk and be invited to work further on the job talk with a CATLOE consultant."

The Office of Student Activities & Orientation at UAlbany is looking for graduate interns to support Orientation programs for the upcoming year. Orientation Interns will support the implementation of our First-Year, Transfer, and Family Summer Orientation programs, as well as Orientation and Welcome programs that take place prior to the start of the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. Orientation Interns will serve as mentors to student Orientation Leaders and serve a critical role in their training and professional development. It’s a Great Dane takeover at AMS 2024!

University at Albany Graduate Students from the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences attended the American Meteorological Society’s 23rd Annual Student Conference this weekend in Baltimore, MD.

Students participated in various topic sessions, networking events, poster sessions and exhibits, and hands-on learning experiences.

Consider attending a conference! Conferences offer graduate students an exciting opportunity to expand their knowledge and learn new skills, explore new and evolving ideas in their fields of study, find valuable career resources, network with other students and professionals, and showcase their research.
