Starring Math: featuring Jerry & Marge Go Large
Join us Monday, March 10, from 6:30–7:30 pm ET (online) for an engaging discussion that dives deep into the true math behind lottery success!

Hosted by David Reimann, MoMath’s 2024–2025 Visiting Professor for Public Outreach, this event unpacks the clever arithmetic strategy that turned an ordinary couple into lottery winners. And that’s not all – we’re excited to announce that special guests will be joining the conversation:
• Prasad Tetali, a math consultant for the movie
• Mark Bollman, renowned for his extensive work on the mathematics of casino games

Whether you’re a numbers enthusiast or just love a great story, this conversation will change the way you see probability, strategy, and luck. Participants are encouraged to watch Jerry & Marge Go Large independently (available on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and more) and then join us for a deep dive into the film’s fascinating math.

Dr. Albert Cohen, director of Actuarial Science (https://actuarialscience.natsci.msu.edu/) and the Masters Certificate Program in Sports Analytics (https://online.msu.edu/programs/sports-analytics-cert) at Michigan State University, visited Albion College on Thursday to present his research on European Football Player Valuation (https://arxiv.org/html/2312.16179v3). A large and diverse audience of math, computer science, data science, kinesiology, and sports communication students were in attendance. The talk was filled with intriguing questions and spawned many lively discussions!

Special thanks the Albion College Department of Mathematics and Computer Science’s generous alumni and donors who make this speaker series possible. And much gratitude to all of the students, faculty (especially organizer April Grow!), and visitors who attended!

This is brilliant:

From basic arithmetic to advanced real analysis, we mathematicians can't seem to agree on anything. The Mathematical Conventions Survey (MCS) aimed to highlight this while simultaneously both entertaining and pi***ng everyone off at the same time.
