Congratulations to our very own Dr. Traci White! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

We are extremely proud to announce that Traci M. White, PharmD, PhC, BCGP, BCOP, is now just one of 7 pharmacists nationwide to be double Board-certified in both Oncology and Geriatric Pharmacy. Dr. White is a Pharmacist Clinician in Oncology and Palliative Care at the MMC Cancer Center.

With the ever-evolving landscape of treatment modalities, cancer care continues to become increasingly complex. Additionally, nearly 60 percent of new cancers are diagnosed in adults over the age of 65, making expertise for that specific age range even more critical.

β€œI sought specialty board certification in oncology to further my knowledge and skills in the care of this vulnerable patient population as they navigate their cancer journeys,” Dr. White said. β€œI aim to provide expertise in medication management, support, and education, alongside the incredible oncology team we have here at MMC.”

Dr. White is also an Assistant Professor at the UNM College of Pharmacy.

What a weekend for the College of Pharmacy! πŸŽ‰ On Friday, we kicked things off by hosting the Class of 1974 for their 50th reunion with a special campus tour and revisiting the original building that housed the College on UNM Main Campus. We continued the celebrations at UNM Homecoming Happy Hour at Hodgin Hall, connecting with alumni and friends.

Saturday morning, the Office of Experiential Education hosted its 2nd Annual Preceptor Development Day, offering live CE sessions, free headshots, networking, and relationship-building with our amazing preceptors. We wrapped up the weekend with a reunion dinner for the Class of 1974, sharing memories and reminiscing on their pharmacy school days.

🧬🎨 Bridging art, science, and tradition.
Through her vibrant, cross-cultural paintings, Zuni artist Mallery Quetawki creates powerful connections between Indigenous communities and medical professionals. By blending traditional protection symbols with scientific illustrations, she challenges institutions to confront historical traumas and reimagine a future of healing and collaboration. Her work at the University of New Mexico’s College of Pharmacy stands at the intersection of art, science, and cultural resilience.

Meet Robyn and Rebecca, two of our outstanding students making national recognitions! 🌟

Robyn Turner was recently featured in a podcast by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, sharing insights from her APPE rotation and her journey into pharmacy. Her experience highlights the immense value of APPE rotations in association management.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Merzke, a nontraditional pharmacy student with a unique background, embraced new opportunities with ASHP as the first-ever summer intern for The Pharmacy Technician Society. Her story is a testament to the power of saying "yes" to new opportunities and finding your path in pharmacy, no matter where you start.

We are so proud of Robyn and Rebecca for representing the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy on the national stage! πŸ‘

Our Story

A LEGACY OF INNOVATION Established in 1945 as UNM’s first health profession college, we are New Mexico's leader in pharmacy education, research and practice, and a model for best practices for pharmacy across the nation. THE STUDENT PHARMACIST EXPERIENCE With world-class clinical and basic science faculty, and a student to faculty ratio of 7:1, our student pharmacists engage fully with a comprehensive curriculum delivered in state-of-the-art facilities. Each student is a valued member of a close-knit, vibrant and inclusive community. Our student organizations are both plentiful and prolific - consistently winning regional and national awards and elected offices. PREMIER GRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAMS Our research program ranks 15th (out of 139 school of pharmacy) in total NIH funding. Our MS and PhD students learn from, and enjoy the benefit of mentorship by, nationally and internationally recognized faculty who consistently excel in high impact publications and intellectual property (patent) disclosures. Our PhD, MS, and PharmD/MS dual degree programs produce graduates who are highly prepared to begin successful and fulfilling careers as respected members of the next generation of leaders in biomedical, academic, pharmaceutical outcomes and policy innovations. INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION As part of an academic health sciences center, interprofessional educational experiences flourish at UNM, providing our student pharmacists with vital training alongside medical, nursing, and other health profession students and preparing them to take their place as part of a comprehensive health care team. THE BIRTHPLACE OF BOTH ADVANCED PRACTICE & NUCLEAR PHARMACY Our Pharmacy Practice faculty are leaders in developing innovative models of patient care and new roles for pharmacists. We are one of only a select few colleges in the nation who offer the student pharmacist the ability to work toward certification in nuclear pharmacy while earning a PharmD. OUR DIVERSITY IS OUR GREATEST STRENGTH Our student body is among the most diverse in the nation, earning the national Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award and multiple national scholarships for our diversity initiatives. PHARMACY IN NEW MEXICO New Mexico is one of only four states in which pharmacists with advanced training can practice as mid-level providers in the healthcare system. In addition, all New Mexico pharmacists can prescribe and administer all vaccinations to patients of all ages, prescribe and dispense oral hormonal contraceptives, smoking cessation agents, travel medications and naloxone, and perform tuberculin skin testing. IMPROVING THE LIVES OF NEW MEXICANS UNM College of Pharmacy has awarded more than 3,000 pharmacy degrees and has served as the training ground for 66% of pharmacists practicing in New Mexico today. Our skilled, compassionate alumni serve patients in urban and rural communities and are leaders in their communities as well as their profession.
