er through Paramedic, continuing education, state and national license renewal opportunities for all levels of EMS, specialty courses, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services. Doug has had a profound impact on numerous providers, EMS students, EMS educators, and EMS services and departments throughout his 50 year career serving the communities of NM. After 50+ years of contributions to EMS, Doug is retiring on July 31st!

It is EMS for Children’s Day! Today we, along with the Child Ready program, visited UNM’s Children’s Campus to talk to about 60 pre-k kids about the importance of car seat safety. The students were excited to learn and loved Buckle the Bear! A special thank you to UNMH Rapid Response for bringing over an ambulance for the kids to explore, they loved it!

Yesterday our BS-EMS paramedic students split up into 4 teams to participate in a medic relay! The goal is to emphasize communication and teamwork when providing patient care; enjoying the beautiful spring weather was a bonus!

Today is a bittersweet day for us at the EMS Academy. Carmen Lazos-Guerrero has held several roles with us over the last 7.5 years. She has done so much incredible work and always has a genuine smile and a peppy "Hello!" for anyone she meets along the way. Today is her last day with the Academy, but not at UNM, as she moves on to her next career adventure.

Thank you, Carmen, for everything you have done for the EMS Academy and for everyone who has walked through our doors! Best of luck and you will be sorely missed!
