Our Story
Gamma Kappa Chapter was founded April 21, 2002 at the University of New Mexico. It would be the first Latina sorority at the university and become a large part in the founding of the university's first Multi-Cultural Greek Council. The chapter was founded to promote the voice of the Latino student and the surrounding community, especially for women, young adults and children. Gamma Kappa and its members have received numerous campus and community awards. In addition, its members have excelled academically and pursued diverse and successful professional careers. Gamma Kappa's Founding Line has seventeen founding sisters. "The Enchanting Revival" re-established Lambda Theta Alpha on the university campus. #1-Nicole Mentz #2-Esmeralda Zamora #3-Julianne Flores #4-Mayra Perez #5-Ana Virgen #6-Alana Hoffman #7-Marisol Tena #8-Cinthia Tena #9-Diana Malero #10-Monica Bencomo Gamma Kappa's Line Three has 5 sisters who became members on March 3, 2012. "The Furious Five" continues to strive to keep Lambda Theta Alpha at its highest standards. #1- Cierra Dorado #2- Jeanette Estrada #3- Amanda Casaus #4- Melissa Pontaza #5- Jolene Lobo Gamma Kappa's founders hoped to exemplify the true essence of community activism, and not just community service. Since that time Gamma Kappa continues to show the meaning of "disturbance" and "revolution" in academic, professional and personal pursuits.
