CURRENTS New Media is pleased to announce our annual open call! (Open to local and international artists)
We are trying something new this year. In addition to the annual festival, we will be presenting three separate, smaller exhibitions throughout 2025, each focusing on one or two modalities of art and technology: Sound Environments/Installations, Artist/AI Collaborations, Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality Environments, and Robotics/Kinetic/Electro-Mechanical Objects and Installations.
This submission process allows you to submit work in these categories for either the festival, the exhibitions, or both.

ANNOUNCEMENT - FALL 2024 LUNAR ARTS AWARD Calling all University of New Mexico students with a passion for artistic exploration! The Fall 2024 Lunar Arts Award is now accepting proposals for original artworks inspired by the moon. Whether you're a painter, sculptor, photographer, filmmaker, poet, dancer, musician, digital artist, or working in any other medium, we invite you to submit your innovative ideas that explore the multifaceted influence of the moon on human culture and imagination. Sponsored by the Space Sustainability Research Grand Challenge (SSRGC) and ARTSLab.

DETAILS:
Three winning proposals will be selected to receive funding.
Each selected project will be awarded a $750 artist stipend.
An additional $250 in material support will be provided for necessary supplies.

ELIGIBILITY:
This award opportunity is exclusively open to current University of New Mexico students enrolled in the Fall 2024 semester. This includes both graduate and undergraduate students. All artistic mediums and disciplines are welcome, including but not limited to: music, painting, sculpture, photography, film/video, poetry, dance, performance, digital art, and mixed media.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of faculty members from Space Sustainability Research Grand Challenge (SSRGC) and ARTSLab Faculty

ADVISORY COMMITTEE:
Projects will be evaluated based on artistic merit, originality, feasibility, and their capacity to spark audience discourse about the moon.
Special consideration will be given to projects that seek to bridge traditional science communication and creative expression.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Call opens: Monday August 19, 2024
Deadline for submission: Monday September 30, 2024
Winners announced: Friday October 4, 2024

Duties and responsibilities include monitoring the digital photography lab, scheduling printing time with student (via google docs), troubleshooting Epson printers, scanners, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, fielding general computer/camera questions, maintaining cleanliness of the labs, gently enforcing lab policies, and ensuring the overall well-being of the photography lab. On-the-job learning includes inkjet printing, scanning, digital photography, Epson and Canon printer maintenance, Adobe CC suite, Google Docs, and conflict de-escalation.
