Alumni, faculty, staff, and students gathered Tuesday night for a Great Lakes Loons game in Midland. For current students and faculty participating in the CORE Undergraduate Research Experience this summer, the event was a unique opportunity to connect and enjoy a relaxing evening outside the lab. The CORE (Cooperative Research Experience) program, part of our summer research initiatives, is a key component of an e-STEM grant from the Herbert H and Grace A Dow Foundation designed to enhance STEM opportunities for K-12 students and teachers, and the CORE program extends these benefits to our undergraduate research efforts here at Alma College. The grant has significantly impacted our STEM community by fostering a strong link between undergraduate research and K-12 education.
Additionally, five students from the Alma College ACORN program joined us. The Alma College Research Network (ACORN) offers first-year science and mathematics students an extraordinary opportunity to engage in research before they even step foot on campus. Selected students are invited to begin their academic journey through the ACORN summer research opportunity, working alongside Alma faculty and other students. Programs like ACORN ignite a passion for hands-on scientific and mathematical research in our incoming students, setting a solid foundation for their future studies.
It was delightful to see familiar faces and welcome new ones, all united in our passion for Alma College's mission. The sense of camaraderie and shared purpose was palpable, and we are excited about the future achievements of our CORE and ACORN participants and the continued growth of our STEM programs.
The Traditions Tree Project is back!
Traditions Dinner teaches new students the history of Alma College, how to sing the alma mater, an appreciation for the bagpipes and other Highland arts, and an introduction to the traditional Alma dish, Highland Chicken. The evening culminates in a timeless gesture: the gifting of a pine tree, a symbol of growth and community, welcoming each new student into our cherished Alma family.
We invite you to become part of this legacy by sponsoring a tree for an incoming student. Add your own words of wisdom or offer guidance as they embark on their unique journey at Alma College.
Sponsor one student's tree with a $25 gift, or sponsor trees for several students and support the enduring traditions and legacies that enhance an Alma College education. Your personal message will be included with each tree you sponsor for a student!

The dance and theatre departments are working hard to raise $50,000 to support the development of two classes - one dance, one theatre - from which a piece will be created to explore the life of Martha Graham, named the dancer of the 20th century. This educational experience will be capped with a trip to Scotland to perform the work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In keeping with tradition, at Traditions Dinner, this year's group of incoming students were given an evergreen tree, which symbolizes growth and a connection to the community to which they now belong. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year's Traditions Tree project! The incoming class of students is very grateful for your generosity and excited for the year ahead. The Learning Commons construction project is progressing nicely. This week and last saw the demolition of the Stacks building, which is expected to be complete soon. When the Learning Commons as a whole is finished, it will be a complete modernization of the existing library into a state-of-the-art facility for students to learn and grow. It's an exciting time!
And it would not be an Alma College commencement without the Alma College Choir’s rendition of Loch Lomond. This year performed by the graduating seniors from the choir.
It was a tough day for the Scots on the field, so a way to soothe the disappointment and remember the pride in our college, the KMB wraps up the day with the alma mater. #loyalhearts
KMB with a salute to our nation that has been through so much in the past year. Together we can persevere.
It’s a beautiful spring day and it also happens to be game day, which means it is time for the Kiltie Marching Band to do what they do best! Just warming up. Stay tuned, more to come.
