The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) creates research partnerships between undergraduate students and University of Michigan researchers. All schools and colleges are active participants in UROP, which provides a wealth of interesting research topics for program participants. UROP started with 14 student/faculty partnerships in 1988, and has expanded to include more than 1300 stud

Our "Traditional UROP Program" has been our flagship program running for over 30 years. This Academic Year program, in which students participate for both Fall and Winter Terms, is designed for The University of Michigan first and second-year undergraduate students enrolled on the Ann Arbor campus who are seeking a first-time research experience. Student research assistants work alongside a faculty member, research scientist, professional practitioner, or community partner on an ongoing or new research project. Projects are available in a wide variety of fields including health sciences, social sciences, engineering, humanities, life sciences, environmental studies, physical sciences, and the creative arts.

Huge congratulations to our UROP student, Hailey Fisher, who presented at the 2025 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Pittsburgh, PA!

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is committed to advancing undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative work across all fields of study. Each year, it hosts a national conference that brings together student scholars from all types of higher education institutions and academic disciplines. Unlike traditional academic conferences, NCUR offers a welcoming and inclusive platform for undergraduates to present their work. It provides a unique opportunity to celebrate student achievement, showcase exemplary research and creativity, and support the development of career readiness skills.

Check out some of our UROP students presenting at The Beautiful Minds Conference!

The Beautiful Minds Conference emerged from a conversation between three colleagues, each uniquely connected to neurodiversity. As their discussions deepened and more colleagues shared their experiences, they recognized an opportunity to use their voices and platforms to advocate for greater awareness.
