Michigan in Washington

Michigan in Washington U-M undergraduate students spend a semester in Washington D.C. interning, taking classes, and experiencing life in our nation's capital!

Each year, the Michigan in Washington Program admits 45-50 University of Michigan undergraduates from all majors to spend a semester (Fall or Winter) in Washington, D.C. Students combine coursework with an internship to earn a full semester of credits. Students find internships in their area of interest, and also produce a research paper on a topic of their choice, while taking up to 2 electives.

Each student has a mentor (U-M alum) who helps him or her adjust to life in Washington. Schedules are demanding, but all find time to visit the monuments and explore the cultural scene in the capital. Most leave Washington longing to return after graduation!
