With the rain falling today and the Hudson Valley and New York State finally emerging from drought conditions, we’re reminded of the vital role water conservation plays in our region. Last month, our MS and MEd students visited Byebrook Farm in Bloomville, NY, where students toured the farm and learned about the NYC Watershed Agreement.
During the visit, students had the chance to meet with members of the Watershed Agricultural Council (@waterfarmforest) to learn how the council works with farmers to protect the city’s water supply. They also discovered the many ways farmers benefit from the program, while helping to ensure NYC’s water remains safe to drink.
A huge thank you to the Deysenroth family for hosting us, and to the Watershed Agricultural Council for sharing their knowledge! 🌧️💧

We may be back in the office after a long weekend, but we can't help thinking back on last week -- and all of the celebrating that we were able to do with the Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability Class of 2024!
As we reminisce, we wanted to share this snippet of the graduation speech given by Renay Loper, Faculty in Organizational Leadership, to the MBA in Sustainability graduates.
What do you think of her acronym?
Jennifer Phillips, who teaches environmental science and agroecology at Bard CEP, shares a bit about some of the challenges the global food system is facing with climate change. She has completed research on agricultural systems, agroforestry, and carbon management. In addition to her research experiences, Jennifer also has a farm in the Hudson Valley where she practiced intensive livestock grazing and enhancing habitat to support biodiversity.
