Attention Artists! The Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, Maryland, is accepting entries for the 2018 National Juried Exhibit through Monday, March 26. All media are eligible. Laura Amussen, Director of Exhibitions and Curator at Goucher College's Rosenberg and Silber Galleries, and an educator at Towson University, will serve as exhibit juror. Prizes will be awarded: First Place – $500; Second Place – $350; Third Place – $200; and Honorable Mention – $100.

Important Dates:
Deadline for Entries – Monday, March 26, 2018
Exhibition Dates – May 5, 2018 through June 20, 2018
Reception – Saturday, May 5, 3-5 pm (attendance not required)

The newest edition of our magazine, Scripsit, is about to come out this week! In this issue, we are honouring our mentor, Prof. Hermann Zapf, who endowed our guild with a scholarship fund, which we named after him, for the continuing study of our art. WCG member, Julian Waters, has put together a magnificent tribute to Prof. Zapf in this issue. Scripsit is a "bene" of membership in the WCG and each member will receive this beautiful double issue. It was an honor to create the citation calligraphy for this year's Howard University Commencement. Among the recipients of honorary degrees was actor Morgan Freeman, one of my all-time favorites! :) Congratulations to him, Xerox CEO Ursula M. Burns, philanthropists Eddie Brown and his wife C. Sylvia Brown and author and educator Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum.

Q. "I’ve been told that we should have our wedding invitations hand canceled. What does this mean?"

A. Without hand canceling, your invitations are run through the post office’s machine-operated sorting system (which cancels out the postage so it can’t be used again), and there’s a chance the envelopes can be damaged by the machine. With hand canceling, the postage stamp is hand stamped to cancel out the postage, and your invitations should arrive in your guests’ mailboxes in perfect condition. You will definitely want to have your invitations hand canceled, especially when you consider the amount of time invested in designing and selecting your wedding stationery!

The Prayer Book of Claude de France, a tiny, jewel-like manuscript that was made for Claude (1499–1524) around 1517, the year she was crowned queen of France. Her coat of arms appears on three different folios. The book is richly illustrated: the borders of each leaf are painted, front and back, with 132 scenes from the lives of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and numerous saints.
