Meet Avery Payne, a junior majoring in public relations. Avery is a social media coordinator and account manager under The Oaks Agency and shares how Auburn has shaped her experience:

"I am a junior here at Auburn, originally from North Carolina, majoring in public relations with a minor in marketing. Being a part of The Oaks Agency has taught me so many valuable life lessons over the past year of being a member. I've gained real-world experience within the role of social media manager and as an account manager. I've learned how to communicate effectively with clients in the Auburn community, develop strategic campaigns, and collaborate with my fellow students in a professional setting. I am so thankful for The Oaks Agency and the ways that it has prepared me and will continue to prepare me for my future endeavors!"

Anna Colson, a music major and public relations minor, recently took the stage as an opener for four-time Grammy Award winner Rosanne Cash at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center. Selected through a competitive process, Anna had the incredible opportunity to perform her own songs just before Rosanne, daughter of the legendary Johnny Cash, delighted the audience.

Reflecting on the night, Anna said, “The event was amazing! All my professors in the Auburn music department are truly incredible and are the reason I felt so prepared and at ease on stage. It was so surreal to be on a stage of that caliber performing songs of my own—something I’ve dreamt of since I was just a kid. Rosanne was amazing … She’s an inspiration to young women especially young women who are going into the music industry.”

We are so proud of Anna and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next! 🎶🎤

Originally from Chelsea, Alabama, Dalton Odom is an Auburn graduate with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a master’s degree in communication. Now, he serves as Auburn’s internal communications editor, leading efforts to inform, engage and empower internal stakeholders. From formulating newsletters to creating captivating content, Dalton’s work not only uplifts the Auburn brand but also enhances the employee experience across campus.

Reflecting on his journey, Dalton credits his success to his involvement as a student. From student recruiter to mic-man, his roles taught him valuable skills in time management and relationship-building. “The best student experience in the country is on the plains and I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without it,” he says.
