The PR department held their once-a-semester PR Day on 2/7. This semester, it featured the Oaks Agency Workshop, where members of the student-run PR agency had the opportunity to meet with members of the PR Advisory Council. The council members, who have backgrounds in various PR fields, shared their expertise with the students. Lenze Hawkins, an account executive at Jackson Spalding in Atlanta, kicked off the workshop with a presentation on best practices for working with clients. This was followed by scenario discussions, where students tackled real-life situations and pain points, learning how to manage and troubleshoot these challenges effectively.

🎬 Auburn University Media Studies alumnus Christopher Hausler co-produced, shot, and co-edited the documentary "AMAKKI," which won Best Documentary Feature at the 2024 Atlanta Film Festival.

The film, a poetic look at womanhood in Ethiopia's Sidama region, will be shown at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta later this year.

Hausler, now pursuing a master’s in visual anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, is exploring political filmmaking and its role in fostering "listening." He aims to pursue a doctorate to study the intersection of film, technology, and social transformation.

Dr. Susan Fillippeli, a Senior Lecturer in Communication at Auburn University, discusses the upcoming presidential debate in her column in The Conversation.

Scheduled for June 27, 2024, the debate between the two leading candidates will take place before either has been officially nominated by their party. Unlike previous debates, it will be hosted by CNN without a live audience, with microphones muted when it's not a candidate's turn to speak. Dr. Fillippeli highlights the potential for significant impacts on the election outcome. The unique setup provides an opportunity for both campaigns to test their candidates and refine their messages with less immediate risk, while also allowing the parties to consider the option of replacing a candidate if their performance is particularly poor.

Public Relations major, Judson Lisenby, lands his class project in The Auburn Villager newspaper. Read below what Judson has to say about it:

“As a piece of the Auburn University College of Liberal Arts public relations curriculum, students are required to complete a newswriting course.

In my specific course students were required to submit a final project where each student interviews a local Auburn-Opelika business. After conducting the interviews, students write an article to submit alongside a media package containing audio files, interview transcripts, and photos.

Out of the projects submitted, my work was one of the stories chosen by The Auburn Villager to be published.

My article is about the upcoming summer music camps at Spicer’s Music located in the Auburn-Opelika area. It highlights the organization’s relentless inclusivity efforts throughout its practices and how its summer music camps are designed for any student regardless of age, learning style, mental or physical disability, etc.”
