Auburn University College of Liberal Arts CLA is the intellectual heart of the university, pursuing knowledge and creative activity.

The College of Liberal Arts houses two schools, twelve departments and the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities. It offers 47 undergraduate majors, 44 minors, and 17 graduate programs in four academic areas – fine arts, humanities, social sciences and communications. Our students participate in activities that give them the opportunity to acquire tangible knowledge, while

becoming critical thinkers and creative spirits who learn how educated and engaged citizens contribute more fully to the overall quality of life. Our dedicated faculty are involved in cutting-edge programs and strategic initiatives that actively advance the mission of Auburn University. Eric Ludgood, a 1978 graduate of the School of Communication and Journalism, award-winning journalist, editor and producer, will deliver remarks during the commencement ceremonies for the College of Liberal Arts and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering on May 11 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Ludgood most recently served as the head of Scripps News, a 24/7 news network broadcast to more than 95 percent of the U.S. and distributed on major streaming platforms.

At 91, Donald Street ’59 has a lifetime of stories shaped by hard work, global travels and an enduring love for Auburn University. From chopping cotton as a child during the Great Depression to earning his doctorate and teaching economics around the world, he’s never stopped pushing boundaries. Now, through scholarships and faculty endowments, he’s giving back to the place that gave him so much.

From Auburn University to Washington, D.C., Clara Ragan’s journey showcases her dedication to public health. Inspired by her mom, a VA pharmacist and Auburn alumna, Clara, a political science and philosophy major, shifted from law to public health after shadowing a judge focused on the opioid epidemic.

Her internship with the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy and work with the Student Government Association led to Narcan being available in fraternity houses, residence halls, and on blue light phones across campus. Clara also ensured opioid overdose response training for RAs.
