It is with heavy hearts that the Auburn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. shares the news of the passing of our beloved sister, Elaine Summers-Burton. She made significant contributions to her community and will be remembered for her sharp wit and the happiness she brought to those around her. A passionate reader and admirer of the arts, Elaine chaired the Auburn Alumnae Arts and Letters Committee, where she organized author book signings, red carpet movie events, and group outings to attend plays and musicals in the local area. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Today we celebrate Nannie Helen Burroughs - a trailblazing educator, civil rights activist. Soror Helen Burroughs is one of the first Honorary Members who served as an educator, businesswoman, and activist who founded the National Training School for Women and Girls. She advocated for vocational training and economic self-sufficiency among Black women, making significant contributions to education and labor rights.
