On our last day at Student Senate this past semester, the student senate at Riverland took their time in electing the cabinet members of 2024-2025. After we were done, we discussed ideas and new projects for the new school year that we are excited to share with you! We will be announcing the new cabinet members and their titles very soon 🤞. For the time being we would like to give a special thanks🙏 to our Dean Mr. Oscar Gonzalez for mentoring us throughout the year.

After our Advocacy Conference at our State level, Student Senate cabinet members Eser Riewe and Bryan Parreira participated in the Washington LeadMN Advocacy Conference. They continued to advocate for first the completion of the FAFSA for students in high school. Second, they emphasized accessible transportation in rural places, not just in our state but in the country so that students can access their college campuses. Lastly, they discussed the Rise Act, which raises awareness about accommodations for students with physical and mental disabilities on college campuses.

In the interest of community college students across the state of Minnesota, we advocated for three big things at our LeadMN Advocacy Conference. First, we advocated for the graduation requirement that students complete the FAFSA while they are in high school. Second, we advocated for accessibile transportation in rural places so that students can access their college campus. Lastly, we pushed forward with the Rise Act, which raises awareness about accommodations for students with physical and mental disabilities on college campuses. We even met with Patricia Mueller who is the House Representative for District 23B SW MN!

We attended Hennepin Technical College for our second LeadMN conference for the School year 2023-2024. The students senate members got to participate in leadership workshop activities and heard from important speakers about each one of their inspiring stories and how they use their skills to better the community around them by advocating. We then went to the LeadMN Scholarship Galla night to celebrate with all the Minnesota community College students who were awarded that night. Congratulations to them!

Riverland presents its Student Senate members for the year 2023-2024! The Student Senate brings together students and campus staff to advocate for the student body. Joining the Student Senate helps members develop leadership skills and learn the essentials of advocacy.

ROCK THE VOTE!! The Riverland College- Austin Student Senate want to thank all of you who made this event successful. Thanks to those who pledged and registered to vote. We want to applaud the Minnesota State College Student Association Executive Director, Mike Dean for his efforts in getting students to pledge to vote during the event. Not forgetting our amazing speaker, Andrea Ramirez-Hernandez who did an awesome presentation. Our gratitude to our Advisor, Laura Helle and all of the members of the Senate; our planning Committee did an amazing job, thanks Seni Wubneh, Kim Beyer, and Dor Tut Puok and others.
