A Nature Sustainability study led by Professor Ted Grantham and PhD candidate Lucy Andrews finds that only 8% of all rivers and streams in California are monitored by stream gauges, making it difficult to properly manage water supply and control floods, monitor changes in freshwater biodiversity, and understand how climate change is affecting water supplies.

While new monitoring equipment is costly to install and maintain, they found a way to reconfigure or expand the network of stream gauges to make it more efficient, cost-effective, and relevant.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Alejandra Echeverri on being named an Azrieli Global Scholar by the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. The program was established in 2016 to support early-career researchers who are recognized as rising stars in their field for their potential as future leaders.

Echeverri will receive two years of funding and research support for early career researchers from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
