Are you a newly admitted student who wants to get an early start on your time at UC Berkeley? With our Freshman Edge and Transfer Edge programs, incoming students will have a chance to do just that!

These programs are specially designed for newly admitted students who have been admitted to UC Berkeley for the coming fall. They give students an early start on their Berkeley experience by offering them the opportunity to:

🔵 Select from hundreds of summer sessions courses, offered online and in-person over 3, 6, 8, or 12 week sessions, and take courses that fulfill breadth, prerequisite, and major requirements ahead of most incoming students

🟡 Learn about the campus and its many resources before fall semester through our orientations and workshops

⚪ Build community with their peers through socials and programming events.

💰 Participants not only get a head start on their Berkeley experience, but also save money by paying a more affordable per-unit summer rate for their courses.

Eligible students who have been admitted to UC Berkeley can opt-in through their CalCentral My Dashboard page Tasks section.

Disease, Health and Medicine in American History

The history of medicine shows how societies have faced health crises in the past and how they have changed their approach to illness and disease over time. This class is a survey of the history of medicine in the U.S., focusing on changing concepts of disease, medical practices, institutions, patient experiences, and public health measures. In particular, the course examines how shifting ideas about gender, class, and race shaped experiences of illness and suffering, as well as medical knowledge and education. While the course focuses on the history of American medicine, it acknowledges that changes in the practice, theory, and education of medicine often do not occur in isolation but are part of global developments.

Introduction to Ancient Egypt

A general introduction to ancient Egypt, providing overview coverage of ancient Egyptian culture and society (history, art, religion, literature, language, social structure), Egyptian archaeology (pyramids, tombs, mummies, temples, cities, monuments, daily life), and the history and development of the modern discipline of Egyptology. Assumes no prior knowledge of subject. Almost all lectures are illustrated extensively by ​power point presentation. Discussion sections ​include meetings in the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology, which has the best collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts west of Chicago.

Students may take courses in person on our beautiful campus or online from the comfort and convenience of home. Don't miss this chance to study at a world-renowned institution!

Please note that these info sessions have been designed to present opportunities available for individuals who have graduated from high school/secondary school. If you will not graduate from high school/secondary school prior to the start of the summer, then you may be eligible to study at Berkeley as part of our Pre-College Scholars Program!

The UC Berkeley Summer Sessions Class Schedule goes live on December 15th which means you can start planning your summer! ☀️ 😎

If you are a UC student, you will be able to start enrolling in classes February 3rd. If you are a non UC student, you will be able to start enrolling in classes Feb 18 (after you fill out your application). Applications open on enrollment day and within 48 hours of submitting your application, you can begin enrolling in courses.

Applications for UC Berkeley Summer Sessions are non-competitive and open to the general public. Anyone who has graduated from high school can attend UC Berkeley during the summer term.
