ECLIPSE WATCH

If you would like to see the “Great Solar Eclipse of 2024,” but don’t want to drive 400 miles for the “total” eclipse, you are welcome to join the Eclipse Watch at Bryn Athyn College on Monday, April 8, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The maximum eclipse will occur at 3:22 pm. If the sky is clear, a telescope and other means to safely watch the eclipse will be available on the lawn by the Swedenborg Library entrance. A live stream video from the TOTAL Eclipse in Ohio will also be sent by a Bryn Athyn College professor! The Library will show the live broadcast from NASA on the monitors in the Café and Computer Lounge beginning at 1:00 pm.

If clouds cover the sun (more than the moon), the videos will be live streamed in the Friends Room of the Library, where eclipse-themed refreshments will be offered.

The rain date for this event is August 12, 2045! We hope you can join us!

Warning: It is not safe to look directly at the sun anytime during a partial, solar eclipse without proper eye protection!!

Every year Lower Moreland High School (LMHS) hosts an Out of the Darkness Walk. They have always asked their neighbor - Bryn Athyn College - to partner with them. The walking route begins at Lower Moreland High School at 8 am on Saturday, April 20th. Participants walk onto the Byrn Athyn College campus via Tomlinson Road passing by Pitcairn Hall, looping up to the library, and then circling back past the college center and up the hill on the way back to LMHS. You are welcome to join the walk at any point along the way.

These Community Walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country and are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004 by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP). The organization is dedicated to su***de prevention through research and advocacy, education, community programs, and provides support for those affected by su***de.

The walk gives individuals the opportunity to raise awareness and to talk about their own connections to the cause of su***de prevention. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost. Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent su***de.
