Congratulations to Elijah Mangum, a Journalism senior from Florence, Miss., on receiving a scholarship from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters! Mangum is currently interning with WLBT-TV in Jackson and plans on working in broadcast journalism.

Time for our final internship highlight of the semester, Chloe Newton!

Chloe is the Journalism Intern at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board.
She says, "Interning at MBCB has been one of the biggest blessings! Not only have I put into practice various communication skills, but I have also learned about the importance of culture within an organization. This internship has been very beneficial to my growth as a communicator and professional."

Congratulations to our 2024 Department of Communication Distinguished Alumni Dr. Dylan McLemore and Michael Walley! It was a pleasure to have you back in Aven Hall.
We also want to thank Dr. Beth Baker-Janser and her husband Kevin Janser for their generous gift to our department which has allowed us to open our new Baker-Janser Student Media Center. This new space, which is used by Blue & Gold Media and Big River Strategies, enhances our current students’ work and makes our department more inviting to prospective students. Thank you to our distinguished alumni, donors, students, and guests who joined us at this year’s Homecoming!

Dylan McLemore is the second of our Distinguished Alumni being honored at the Distinguished Alumni Reception this Friday! Dr. McLemore is an Associate Professor of Sports Media in the School of Media and Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Okla. He graduated from our department in 2018 with a B.S. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations, and then in 2010 earned his M.S. in Communication also from Mississippi College. Dr. McLemore earned his Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Alabama, where he was a graduate council research fellow, graduate teaching fellow, and National Communication Association doctoral honors scholar. We hope to see you Friday to meet and learn more about these two amazing alumni of our department!

Micheal Walley is one of two Distinguished Alumni being honored at the Distinguished Alumni Reception this Friday! Mr. Walley is a Team Leader for Live Creative for camps and events at Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville, Tenn. He graduated from our department in 2014 with a B.S. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. Come Friday to hear a word from him and recognize his success in the Public Relations field!

Our next intern is Elijah Mangum!

Elijah is a senior with a focus in journalism and works as a news intern at WLBT!

He says, "WLBT is such an awesome place to work! I've been learning so much and having so much fun. I have not only been shadowing reporters and producers, but I have gone out on my own stories, most of which have made it to air. I work with the most amazing people who are so helpful and supportive. I can't wait to see how God will use this experience to prepare me for my future career."
