Microaggressions are subtle gestures, comments, and biased behaviors towards marginalized groups. Join Daphnee Nicolas and Shauna Tominey for a conversation on recognizing microaggressions and implicit bias and consider how each can impact interactions with children and families in early childhood and parenting education settings. Through activities, discussion, and reflection, participants will learn strategies to foster school and community environments where all children and families feel welcome and valued.

Have you ever wondered about the resilience of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Check out this newly published article from recent CPHHS grads and current HDFS graduate students, along with faculty member Carolyn Aldwin, that describes their study on older adults and resilience during the pandemic: https://academic.oup.com/psychsocgerontology/advance-article/doi/10.1093/geronb/gbab058/6244417?searchresult=1

For a brief read, you can also check out this awesome OSU Synergies article on the project: https://synergies.oregonstate.edu/2021/older-adults-found-resilience-during-pandemic-through-community-human-connection-study-finds/

OR sign up for this symposium to hear a recording of discussions around this and other related projects: https://www.osualum.com/s/359/16/interior.aspx?sid=359&gid=1001&pgid=9151&cid=17641

Congratulations to this team on their newly published article!

“It’s a mistake to think of older adults as just being sort of victims during COVID,” Carolyn says. “They’re a lot more resilient than we think they are, and they’re important for the community.”
