There's more fresh content on MediaSpace!

One film documents the "Cheese Manufacturing and October Cheese Festival" in 1963. This largely silent film begins with a welcome message from Governor Mark Hatfield, speaking on the cheese industry in Oregon and the forthcoming October Cheese Festival. From there, the film shows the entire process of making cheese, beginning with milking cows, transporting milk, and deploying a combination of machinery and human labor to manufacture cheese for shipping and sale. Rose Valley Butter and Cheese (Tillamook, Oregon), and the Mount Angel Cooperative Creamery (Mount Angel, Oregon) are both depicted in the film.

Open reel audiotapes from the OSU Oral Histories and Sound Recordings (OH 003) have been digitized!

Included is a dedication ceremony for the newly completed William Jasper Kerr Library at Oregon State University. The ceremony, which was held in the Home Economics Auditorium in Milam Hall, featured remarks by OSU President James Jensen, U.S. Representative Edith Greene, University of Kansas library director Thomas Buckman, Robert Kerr (son of William Jasper Kerr), State Board of Higher Education member Elizabeth Johnson, OSU library director William Carlson, Herbert Childs of the library committee, and student body president Grant Watkinson.

The Judy Kitzman Papers consist of materials generated and collected by alumna and Oregon State University Women's Crew coach Judy Kitzman. Made up of photographs, scrapbooks, instructional guides, newspaper clippings, a research paper, and historical essays, this collection documents Kitzman's particpation in competitive rowing for OSU first as a student and then as the coach of the team. Kitzman's involvement in the Portland-area crew community after her departure from OSU is also reflected in this collection. Kitzman died in 2017.

Included is a "Voice of America" scripted broadcast. Subjects include James H. Jensen, forestry research, white muscle disease, the Choralaires, the Morrill Act, alkaline bees, William Jasper Kerr, football, the Information Department, "the knight of the burning pestle," and the Oceanography Department.

Open reel audiotapes from the OSU Oral Histories and Sound Recordings (OH 003) have been digitized!

Included is a radio feature on The Apollo, a three-person simulated space capsule built by Air Force ROTC units at Oregon State University. This recording features cadet colonel Mike Mulligan, then a senior from Portland.

The Oregon State University Pennant Collection is made up of six pennants promoting Oregon State University as well as its earlier incarnations: Oregon Agricultural College and Oregon State College. Two of the pennants specifically commemorate Oregon State College's participation in the 1942 and 1957 Rose Bowl games. The pennants were donated to the OSU Special Collections and Archives Research Center by the Office of University Relations and Marketing and two other donors.

Included is an interview with dendrologist Oliver Matthews who traveled extensively in Oregon for more than 40 years in pursuit of trees, particularly the biggest of each species. Subjects discussed include the Johnson fir; sport forms of trees; and unusual Oregon trees.

The Oregon State University (OSU) Kalmekak Community Outreach Program Records document the administration and outreach activities of this organization. OSU Kalmekak was established at OSU in 1996 and was active until 2018. The program sought to serve and advocate for the Latino/a and Chicano/a community of Corvallis - and more broadly the state of Oregon - within higher education, as well as increase cultural and racial awareness within the Corvallis area.

Included is an interview with Lora Maud (Hansell) Lemon who earned a BS in Commerce from Oregon Agricultural College. She later married E.B. Lemon. In this interview, she was asked to reflect on her early
experiences in Corvallis and with Oregon State College. Subjects include Corvallis, 1894-1908; and Thomas M. Gatch.

The Panhellenic Council Records document the origins, administration, and activities of sororities at Oregon State University. The Panhellenic Council, established in 1917 at OSU, is the governing body for a portion of the sororities at OSU, responsible for creating rules and oversight that is outside of the institution's range.

A number of the Rush Handbooks from the 1930s-1990s have been digitized and are available via Oregon Digital.

Included is an interview with Arthur G.B. Bouquet who completed a BS degree in horticulture at Oregon Agricultural College in 1906. He was a faculty member in the Oregon State College Horticulture Department from 1909 until his retirement in 1950. In this interview, he was asked to reflect on the past,
present and future of Oregon State College. Subjects discussed include Oregon vegetable production, 1906-1956; Extension radio broadcasts; the Oregon 4-H club; William Jasper Kerr; World War II vegetable production; and James Withycombe.

Included is an interview with Melissa Martin Dawes who joined the faculty in modern languages at Oregon Agricultural College in 1915. She served as chair of the Modern Languages Department from 1930 until her retirement in 1960. In this interview, Dawes was asked to reflect on the past, present and
future of Oregon State College. Subjects discussed include the Foreign Languages Department; William Jasper Kerr; Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP); School of Basic Arts and Sciences; and state education system reorganization, 1932. Interview
conducted by Lillian Van Loan.

education teacher training, 1915-1956; teacher placement in World War II; May Chini, Elizabeth Snell and Bertram Evans; California Secondary Administrator’s conferences; Oregon Educational Association convention; and the Oregon branch of the Association of Institutional Teacher Placement.

The Head of Archival Processing fosters a culture of ethical, sustainable, and service-oriented stewardship of SCARC’s resources. The Head of Archival Processing supervises two faculty members, the Collections Archivist and the University Records Manager, and may be asked to represent SCARC on the Department Head’s behalf.
