Emily Jenan Riley (OSU Anthropology alum; Assistant professor and researcher in the Center for Asian and African Studies at El Colegio de México) Book release celebration: "Teraanga is a pivotal concept from Senegalese culture embodying hospitality, generosity, and respect. In Teraanga Republic, Emily Jenan Riley delves into how Senegalese women, who constitutionally make up half of the country's elected representatives, transform their private social skills into public governance strategies. Riley provides an intimate look at the lives and careers of several prominent Senegalese women politicians, including Ayda Mbóoj, Aysata Tall Sall, Mously Jaxate, and Aminata Touré. She demonstrates that the parité movement's triumphs and the sustained political influence of these women hinge on their adept negotiations of teraanga.

The Land Loves You:
Honoring Sacred Relationships

April 2, 2025. 4-6 p.m.
Kaku-Ixt Mana Ina Haws
311 SW 26th St, Corvallis, OR

School of Language, Culture, and Society at Oregon State University

Our relationship with the land is the foundation of all aspects of healthy living-physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and in our community. In this workshop, we will recognize the land as a relative, a teacher, and a source of deep connection.

Through guided discussion, reflection, and storying, we will examine how our conceptualizations of land shape our actions and responsibilities. Together, we will honor the ways that land loves, sustains, and calls us into reciprocal relationship.

As we prepare for another busy spring term, please remind your students to visit the degree completion steps and deadlines pages for Certificate, Master’s, and Doctoral students to help ensure a timely completion.

Key deadlines for students:

• Submit a diploma application by the start of the final term for each degree or certificate.
• Master’s programs of study are due 15 weeks before the final exam or alternative summative assessment. In other words, they’re due now for any master’s student trying to graduate in spring.
• Exam scheduling forms are due a minimum of two weeks prior to the exam or alternative summative assessment. Unfortunately, our office receives many late requests, which we cannot always accommodate. We’ll continue to do our best to serve all students, but in some cases of late submissions students will need to reschedule.
• Students completing a thesis or dissertation should submit pre-text pages to [email protected] for formatting review two weeks prior to the final exam. Consult our Thesis Guide for formatting and final submission instructions.
• Master’s and doctoral students interested in participating in the June Commencement should visit our Commencement page for additional steps and details.
