DALLAS, TX – The historic Texas Theatre hosted another MediaTech movie premiere this week with the short Rom-Com, “Here for a Good Time” written and directed by Ray “Ray Today” Williams. This comedy caper centers around an anniversary dinner at a fancy restaurant for the down and soon to be out Carol and George. The hapless but hopeful couple fancies themselves as a modern Bonnie & Clyde, celebrating a victory that never seems to happen, turning a high-end steak dinner into low-stakes hijinks of a dine-and-dash caper. Actors Alina Pakbin and Brandon Bardot (great actor names!) bring a pathetic charm to the lovable losers, Carol and George, while the supporting cast holds them accountable. While gambling and alcohol addictions are serious topics, “Ray Today” and his appealing cast give us a fun ride aboard this train wreck of a couple.

DP and editor, Erik Casarez employed interesting low angles and smooth tracking and drone shots that show the classiness of the location, which contrasts with the characters’ classlessness. The entire 3rd Act resolves while the closing credits roll, an efficient way to wrap up the story. The sound in this project was outstanding, from location audio to the post mix, including the outstanding music of MTI grad, “Ozzie Monroe” whose lush tracks fit right in the with the high-end location and beautiful cinematography.

The Behind-the-Scenes doc, directed and edited by Victor Lizardi and co-directed by Shameka Hightower give us a glimpse at all the hard work it took to make this.

A lighter look at addiction was a theme of the night, with Mr. Casarez’s documentary “No Porn”, featuring his cinematic partner, “Ray Today’s” efforts to overcome an early p**n addiction. Also expertly shot and edited, the courage of these filmmakers is admirable.

The night was complete with an entertaining array of student commercials, music videos and animation reels.
