Read the newest post from us (9/7/2023), "RAF Pilots Trained at Napier Field," in "It Came From the Archives" on the Troy Today Blog.

During World War 2, the skies over Great Britain were filled with too many German airplanes, and the weather was too inclement, for pilot-cadets to train safely. So they trained in colonies like India and South Africa, but they also trained in the US from June 1941 to March 1943.

Dothan Campus: Russian troops invaded Ukraine at 5 am on February 24, 2022. Since then, the city of Kropivnitsky has withstood several attacks by dozens of missiles. Air raid warnings sound for hours every day. The faculty and staff of our sister library of Kropivnitsky University are currently busy volunteering their help for the defense and hospitals, accommodating the refugees, preparing for the coming cold winter, and massively withdrawing pro-Russian resources from the library collection.

Come visit the Dothan campus (Everett Hall, 2nd floor) to view a unique display of our friendship with Kropivnitsky University library, as well as the past and current life of the Ukrainian university (including significant challenges since the crisis in 2014 and under the full-scale Russian military invasion in 2022).

On this day Ukrainians wear vyshyvankas to demonstrate adherence to the idea of national identity and unity and to show their patriotism. In May of 2018, a representative of Troy University Library, Olga Casey, attended this feast at our sister library of Kropivnitsky University.

Come visit the Dothan campus (Everett Hall, 2nd floor) to view a unique display of our friendship, as well as the past and current life of the Ukrainian University (including significant challenges since the crisis in 2014 and under the full-scale Russian military invasion in 2022). Dothan Campus: In 2014, Troy University Library's sister library, Kropivnitsky University, organized a fundraising campaign to help ATO (anti-terrorist operation) in the eastern region of Ukraine in response to a significant crisis in the country. Kropivnitsky University Library staff and students made patriotic Ukrainian crafts and sold them in a charity sale, which Troy University Library proudly supported. Also, in September 2014, we provided Kropivnitsky University with over 150 articles on the situation in Ukraine that were featured in American newspapers. These were publicly displayed at the Kropivnitsky University Library in order to help our friends understand that they were not abandoned.

We successfully presented about the ALA Sister Library initiative and our partnership. Dothan Campus: The Sister Library Program of the American Library Association International Relations Round Table helps to link libraries around the world and promotes the exchange of information and cultural understanding. In 2009, Troy University Libraries began its sister library partnership with the library of Ukraine's Kropivnitsky University (V. Vinnichenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University) on the basis of informal communication between the libraries’ staff members and exchanging presents of books and periodicals on different disciplines, works of the art department students, and other materials.

Like a real friendship, the relationship between the two libraries has strengthened with time. Come visit the Dothan campus (Everett Hall, 2nd floor) to view a unique display of the friendship between our libraries, as well as the past and current life of the Ukrainian university students and faculty (including significant challenges since the crisis in 2014 and under the full-scale Russian military invasion in 2022).

Isaac Newton's "Principia," is one of the most important scientific works in history. It lays out Newton's laws of motion, describing the relationship between an object, the forces acting on it, and the object's motion in regards to those forces; Newton's law of universal gravitation; and a derivation of Kepler's laws of planetary motion. Newton developed the foundation for the branch of physics known as classical mechanics and helped form the field of calculus.

Published in 1859, Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" laid the foundation for evolutionary biology. The book introduced the theory of evolution through natural selection. Darwin argued that all current species arose through branching evolution from a common ancestor. "Origin" generated much scientific, philosophical, and religious debate, but eventually Darwin's theory of a branching pattern of evolution through natural selection was generally accepted by the scientific community.

Does the Earth orbit the Sun or is the Earth the center of it all?
Galileo thought he had the answer. Published in 1632 under license from the Inquisition, Galileo was later declared a heretic by the Catholic Church. Placed under house arrest for the rest of his life, he eventually recanted his ideas. Galileo's "Dialogues" was placed on the Index of Forbidden Books and not removed until 1835.
