The College of Engineering and Computing was founded in 1985 as George Mason University’s School of Information Technology and Engineering. Today, this large, multidisciplinary school maintains a dual pre-eminence in both information technology and engineering. Kimberly Montesflores Gonzalez already had a strong relationship with George Mason University before she enrolled as a freshman this fall.
The computer science major received an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which comes with $40,000 and an Amazon internship, which will start next summer. She also received one of Mason’s University Scholars awards, a full tuition scholarship given to select students from the Honors College.

Dean Ken Ball Ball and President Greg Washington gave remarks. They have long been engaged with ASEE; Dean Ball is currently chair of the ASEE Engineering Deans Council, as was President Washington during his time as dean at the University of California, Irvine.
CEC and GMU congratulate ASEE and recognize its essential role in the continuing evolution of how we train, educate, and create new engineers.

Professor of statistics Lily Wang is leading a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary team to find biomarkers for aging-related diseases from the latest biomedical imaging techniques. A program run by the NSF and NIH has awarded Wang’s team $1,199,772 for the study.
