There's still 6 hours to make your mark and impact UM-Flint students!

Josh Spencer, owner of Cafe Rhema and UM-Flint Theatre Alum, is championing a CASE fund today for Giving Blue Day.

When we asked him why Giving Blue Day is important, he shared with us:
"I have been passionate over the years to giving back to my community, building many new businesses in Flint, including Café Rhema, a project that is near and dear to my heart. In fact, I was able to add my theatrical flair into the design of the space and menu, and even include a performance venue with our Rhema Lounge space behind the café. The primary vision of Café Rhema is to offer a safe, alcohol free space for students to hang out, and a platform for local artists to advance their skills."

Let's come together and support not only this fantastic local business today - but remember the impact even a small gift can make.

Donate through the QR code on Café Rhema's cups today and $5 will be added to each donation!

Thanks to our efforts last Giving Blue Day, CASE Opportunity Funds supported a river clean-up event by awarding funds to current wildlife biology major Lauren Bishai. Lauren coordinated with Housing and Residential Life and other student organizations to execute the event in October 2023 and with the funding, was able to purchase enough supplies to support another clean-up event she plans to coordinate in the spring.

It is with deep anger, frustration, and sadness that the faculty of the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department reach out to our campus community. We grieve with those mourning the disproportionate loss of Black and brown people to the pandemic and share outrage at the police killing of Black people - Black adults and youth, Black men, Black women, Black trans, Black gender non-binary, and Black intersex people.
Do not hesitate to reach out to us. We stand in solidarity with those fighting to end systemic racism and resist oppression. We share your goal of a more equal world. We value Black lives.

Humans are a diverse lot. We can look distinctively different. But is that because of race or ethnicity?

"We are finally beginning to understand that just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to shepherd people through their golden years." Amy Blackstone, University of Maine

We can’t all depend on adult children to stave off loneliness. College-style living — “minus the keg stands” — can help.
