🌟 Student Spotlight: Suri Zielinski 🌟
We're proud to celebrate Suri Zielinski, a standout Winter 2025 graduate of our RN to BSN program!

Suri was honored at the RN-BSN Pinning Ceremony with not one, but two awards:
🏅 Ellen Woodman Transformational Leadership Award
🏅 Outstanding RN-BSN Student Award

During their time in the program, Suri led an impactful Population Health project in Brooklyn, NY, working with the “1225 Girls”—providing Narcan education to teens (ages 14+) in the Orthodox Jewish community. Their commitment to culturally sensitive, life-saving education shows true community leadership in action.

After completing their BSN, Suri shared exciting news:
🔹 They began their nursing career at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, a Level 2 Stroke and STEMI center.
🔹 And now—just one year later—they’ve landed their dream job in the ER at Westchester Medical Center, a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center. They’ll start this August!

Suri’s journey is a powerful example of what it means to lead, grow, and dream big. 💙 Congratulations, Suri—we can’t wait to see all you accomplish next!

In 1974, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Board of Regents approved the establishment of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the Flint campus.

This development provided a valuable opportunity for local registered nurses to earn their BSN within their own community. The program initially operated from the Mott Memorial Building on the campus of Mott Community College.

This marked the beginning of the University of Michigan-Flint's Nursing division, laying the foundation for future growth and development in nursing education at the university!

We had the privilege of welcoming back Eric Johnson, retired Michigan State Police First Lieutenant and a true expert in forensic photography. With over 35 years of experience and credentials like CFPh and CEP, Eric shared invaluable insights on capturing courtroom-admissible photos to our SANE students.

As part of their specialized role, understanding forensic photography is crucial for supporting survivors and upholding justice. Huge thanks to Eric for empowering our students with the skills to make a real difference in forensic nursing!

❓QUESTION: "What will you remember the most about the Future Nurse Camp?"

✅ ANSWER: "The staff...they were so nice and inspiring. The guy in the control room with the beard was really funny and hopefully will be my instructor one day."

This year, Future Nurse Summer Camp will take place on July 16th and July 17th at the UM-Flint campus. We have spots for 60 campers and with over 50% of seats already booked, we encourage you to register soon to reserve your spot.
