MCC Administration and its Board of Trustees are committed to participating in training and educational opportunities to enhance governance and leadership skills. In light of that commitment, MCC representatives joined nearly 1,400 community college leaders, students, and other advocates in Washington, D.C., for the 2025 Community College National Legislative Summit (NLS). As part of the event, Association of Community College Trustees members from across the country traveled to Capitol Hill to meet with their elected officials.

The NLS is the premier community college advocacy event that shines a spotlight on the importance of the nation’s community colleges for Congress and other federal representatives. The event is designed to inform and educate community college leaders on federal policy issues that impact postsecondary institutions and students.

Mott Community College in Full Compliance per Higher Learning Commission

Mott Community College (MCC) was notified - via a letter of inquiry received from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) dated December 12, 2024 - that a complaint had been received by the HLC on December 3, 2024 and MCC staff was afforded the opportunity to respond.

Upon review of MCC’s response submitted on January 10, 2025, the HLC has determined that Mott Community College provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the matter raised in the complaint does not indicate noncompliance with the HLC requirements. No additional reviews will be conducted nor will this information be part of future HLC evaluative processes.

“I was highly confident throughout this process that Mott Community College was in full and complete compliance with HLC standards,” says Shaunda Richardson-Snell, MCC Interim President. “The HLC’s determination in this matter solidly reiterates that MCC’s Board of Trustees, faculty and staff work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in delivering education and training to our students. I’m extremely excited about Mott’s bright future and the tremendous opportunities we have before us. In 2025, and beyond, we are focused on our vision to create an ‘extraordinary experience’ at MCC for all of our students.”

MCC Board of Trustees Chairman Jeffrey Swanson also added, “I’d like to give a tremendous thank you to Mott’s Interim President Richardson-Snell and her colleagues. Their timely, efficient and thorough submission led to a prompt response from the HLC. Mott Community College’s accreditation is not a risk and it is and will continue to be in good standing. “
