Former Tritons (L-R)... Jabaree Leopold Ani Mteto and Richard Felton met in the semis of the 2024 D1 Men's Club National Champioships this weekend. Three of the very best to ever put on the Triton jersey. They helped put Iowa Central on the map in the early days! Cheers boys and thank you! Congrats to Jabaree and Richie who's St. Louis Bombers beat Belmont Shore for the Natty!

Let's talk about graduation stories we can ALL get behind. I was able to see Wayne Cosper in person. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be with Tony Robinson in New York (1st gen) Nazareth College. Both young men are accomplished rugby players but more importantly...they are college graduates. Look out world! 😎

This group of cool cats came to the Big Rivers Rugby Conference 7s tournament without 6 of their top 9 on the depth chart (coaches decision to rest and recover). They went 3-0 in pool play and lost in sudden death OT in the semis. They battled their opponents and loved and supported each other all day. Now we prepare for the CRCs in Washington DC April 26-27. Wish them well Triton Nation...they deserve it!

Triton Rugby is honored to be members of an institution where academic achievement is considered the highest of our endeavors. 1st team is 3.5-3.99 GPA. 2nd team is 3.0-3.49 and 3 young men Devyn Farrell Aidan Lemley and Alden Bordallo earned 4.0 GPA

Please help me welcome Jack Wing a 5'10 215 lbs Center, Ho**er from Westside HS in Omaha, NE. Jack has played the majority of his rugby for Westside RFC and Josh Napora, but also played for Big Red Rugby and the Omaha Beavers. Jack intends to study Diesel Technologies while at Iowa Central. Jack is a hard nosed, tough kid who works his ass off and has tremendous leadership qualities. His favorite rugby memory is playing 7s in Eugene, MN. His future plans are to go as far as he can in rugby and then he plans to open and own a deisel tech shop. He has wrestled and played football as well as played rugby while in HS. He is a 1st team class A All-State Center in football, and 2-time class A state team champion in football. His biggest rugby influence is his coach coach Josh Napora who, 'taught me almost everything I know about rugby and got me started in the game.' Here he is ladies and gents...Jack Wing!

This contingent of 13 young men from Triton Rugby took their talents to Austin, TX to play in the NCR All-Stars competition. They played their guts out and came away with some hardware. The Tritons were joined by many other great players from colleges across the Midwest. They gained some extremely valuable experience on the pitch but more importantly...made some lifelong memories.

Very happy to announce Veltrez Black has committed to play rugby here this upcoming fall. Veltrez is a 6'1 222 lbs prop, wing (IKR) 😎🔥 out of North Community HS in Minneapolis, MN. Veltrez plays for the Minnetonka rugby club. He lists his favorite rugby memory as playing in state for the first time with his team. He plans to major in Business and minor in Photography. He wants to open a business one day and go as far as he can in rugby. Other highlights of his rugby career include placing top 3 in state and playing with the Minnesota Banshees 15s side. Veltrez has also excelled in football, basketball and wrestling. His biggest rugby influence is Henry Tuilagi who is a fast, strong rugby player. Triton Nation please welcome this young man!

Volunteering just to help, is the act of service we need in this world. The boys made it a fun Sunday selling tickets and programs for the Game One Bowl which our Tritons football team won. We had some laughs and some together time. Very proud of Liam, Noah, Aiden and Devyn for stepping up.

In the Fall of 2019 Gus Sokol came to Iowa Central by way of Oregon. He wasn't immediately impactful but he was eager and had a great attitude, with love for the game. He had size and speed in his favor. He enjoyed lifting weights and loved his teammates more than he loved rugby. Gus continued to develop and his rugby IQ grew significantly. He changed his major to Fire Science and graduated mid year in December of 2021.
By then he could throw bullets in both directions, he had gotten stronger and faster, tougher mentally. Unfortunately, we lost our NCR D1 bowl matchup vs and his college career was seemingly over. However, Gus decided to come back for one last semester to finish the year with his brothers.
He absolutely crushed it that final semester when he came back. 7s had become his thing. He was damn good. Iowa Central received an at-large bid to the CRCs. We didnt fair well in New Orleans but Gus had found his calling. From there he has had a stint with the Denver Barbarians, Rhinos rugby, PR7s Loggerheads and just recently, The Wild Dogs who won a professional 10s tournament in South Africa where these pictures and video were taken. Gus Sokol has developed into a force on the pitch and he is just getting started. Of all his rugby accomplishments from past, present and future what will always stand out about Gus is his character. Rugby did not build his character, it helped reveal it. There are wonderful opportunities ahead for Gus in rugby and life and he will knock them out of the park. Please root for this young man. The sport and the world need more like him.
Side note: I asked his permission to share some of our text conversation and this was what he had to say...
"Everyday we practice at a different elementary school here in South Africa and afterwards the kids come out and we sign autographs for all of them and the little kid made me a card for the games tomorrow. The other day we went to a retirement home to liven up some peoples days as well. It’s been one of the most humbling moments of my life here and honestly has brought me to tears more than once. The smiles on the kids faces just to even see rugby players" Go be great Gus!

Very stoked to present incoming 2024 player Ian Murra. Ian is a 5'10 180 lbs Center/Scrum Half from Cedar Falls, IA. The Cedar Falls Tiger rugby club placed 2nd at state last year and will be the favorite to take home the 2A title this Spring. Ian has very good field vision and is a tremendous ball carrier. He lists playing in Utah with the Rebel Rugby Academy as his rugby highlight thus far. His rugby goal is to play overseas one day. Ian was named to the All State Elite team last year as a junior. He is also the Cedar Falls team captain. Ian has played football and wrestled in the past. His father Steve is his rugby role model. Ian will major in carpentry at Iowa Central. Triton Nation...please give it up for this talented young man.

Although we would prefer to be in NCR playoffs...these young men donated their time on Thanksgiving break to haul decorations. The Ringland/Smeltzer house is on the National Register of Historical Places and located in the Oak Hill District of Fort Dodge. Known for hosting small but eloquent gatherings the Smeltzer House is an amazing attraction of Fort Dodge. The boys shown with curator Bill Griffel are Takudzwa Musingwini from Zimbabwe, Thomas Deller from North Carolina and captain Matt Surles-Davis from Fort Dodge.
