Hesston College Art Department Hesston College is a college of Mennonite Church, USA. We are Hesston College's Art Department.

The Art Department at Hesston College has a long history of inspiring students and encouraging them on paths to life in the arts, both as professional artists and patrons of the arts. Our current focus is on Ceramics and Graphic Design, including painting, printmaking, and drawing to fill out a comprehensive introductory arts program. Opportunities abound on campus for Graphic Design Internships,

Ceramics Independent Studies, and individualized program plans. Keep checking back as we share new plans and ideas in the coming semesters!

Wood/soda/propane electric conversion firing number 4! Ooh, we're learning how this works now! 2 bushels of soda soaked pine. About a bushel of split oak. About 2 bushels of hedge. We used about half of a 30lb propane tank. Lit the w**d burner at 7:30am and closed her up at 7:30pm.

The second lid, which made the roof of the kiln two bricks thick, made a huge difference! Steadyish climb up to 2200, then a bumpy ride for the last 5 hours, but it turned out our pyrometer was failing, so pretty well held between 2250 and 2300 for about 4 hours.

Tortus Copenhagen (Eric Landon) is one of our go-to video resources for Ceramics I and II. Throwing technique is important, and one of a kind for pretty much every ceramicist. His videos help broaden our perspectives. Also, he's funny. Check out his Instagram for more.

Here it is!!! Make your plans accordingly! I will share that the breakfast at HHS on Saturday is donuts/coffee/free and probably best suited for HHS grads. There is also a community breakfast--full meal--at the Hesston Area Senior Center that morning.
