Honoring Lieutenant Helio Garcia

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of one of our own — Lieutenant Helio Garcia — who died in the line of duty following a tragic head-on collision while on shift Tuesday night.

Lt. Garcia was a dedicated officer, a respected leader, and a friend to many within the South Fulton Police Department. His commitment to protecting and serving this community was unwavering, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched both in and out of uniform.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. Please keep Lt. Garcia’s family and our department in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating loss.

⛈ A line of thunderstorms will enter far northwest Georgia early Monday morning, advancing southward throughout the day. An Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather has been introduced for Monday. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat with any severe storms that occur, though hail and brief tornadoes will also be possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a portion of Cobb County until 12am. This Warning does not currently include KSU campuses, as the storms remain to the west of us for the time being.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for Cobb County until 4am Sunday (3/16). This means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Remain weather aware!

Our deepest condolences to the Cantoral family and to Cobb County Police.

The Cobb County Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the tragic and untimely loss of Officer Anthony Cantoral, who passed away due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision while off-duty.

Our hearts go out to Officer Cantoral's family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. We also extend our thoughts and prayers to the other individuals involved in the accident.

At this time, our focus remains on supporting Officer Cantoral’s loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. We kindly ask for patience and respect for his family and those closest to him as we grieve together.
