Today marks the 70th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring's release! Published on July 29, 1954, J.R.R. Tolkien’s work continued the journey from The Hobbit and expanded the world of Middle-earth. It’s a timeless reminder that “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” What’s your favorite quote, passage, or character from this classic (book not movie, please!)? Share your thoughts and celebrate the wonder of Middle-earth!

80 years ago today, with paratroopers dropped, in-land, around midnight and a full-air and sea offensive at 6:30AM, Operation Overlord began. With so few soldiers still alive, we rely on the fearless journalists who documented the war in such detail. In addition to memoirs, monographs, and articles, the library has newsreels, photographs, maps, letters, and journals to help us never forget what was endured to free Europe, and later the Pacific.
