MSU Extension Senior Dairy and Beef Educator Phil Durst shared some insights into his work over the last two weeks...
Last week, Phil sampled blood on a cooperating farm for a project led by Dr. Tasia Kendrick on strategies for combatting bovine leukemia virus.
In the prior week, Phil had the opportunity to host Anatolii Dudur, a milk processor from Ukraine who is in the US as a part of the Global Ties – Detroit program. They visited the MSU dairy plant, Foremost Farms USA dairy plant at Greenville, and Wilson Centennial Farms.

Through cutting-edge anaerobic digestion research and deployment, MSU researchers are demonstrating how agricultural and food waste can be harnessed to produce clean energy, recover valuable resources and protect the Great Lakes ecosystem. The MSU Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center generates 6,500 kilowatt-hours per day of renewable electricity and produces 15,000 gallons of digestate daily.
