A Prayer for Pope Leo XIV from Marc Reeves, SJ, Associate Vice President for the Office of Mission and Ministry at LMU:

Loving God, we express our gratitude and offer our prayers for the newly elected Holy Father, Leo XIV. May he truly embody the Good Shepherd, reflecting Your Son’s image and likeness by caring for the common good, fostering peace and unity among peoples and nations, advocating for the poor and marginalized, and serving as a spiritual leader who embraces everyone, reminding the world of Your love for all.

Guide Pope Leo XIV with the Holy Spirit as he leads the Church and serves as a spiritual leader in our world. Bestow upon him the gift of missionary zeal, witnessing to the world that “You have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless till they rest in You.”*

May our collective prayers strengthen him, providing the courage and support he needs as he fulfills the ministry Christ has entrusted to him with the gifts of faith, hope, and love.

Today, we mourn the loss of Pope Francis, whose life was a testament to compassion, humility, and courageous leadership. For over a decade, his papacy offered a profound commitment to justice, mercy, and radical inclusion—values consistent with our mission as a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Marymount traditions. Whether it’s leading by example through her work on upcoming films, A Nice Indian Boy in theaters April 4th and the Hugh Jackman/Kate Hudson-starring Song Sung Blue, sharing knowledge with students at LMU School of Film and Television (SFTV), or co-leading San Quentin’s first film workshop, Amy is a hope spreader. Her leadership earned her last year’s ASC Presidents Award, and as SFTV’s inaugural Distinguished Artist in Residence she’s preparing the next generation of entertainment leaders and storytellers.

Students of LMU continue to motivate and inspire us. 🦁 Meet Cy Teruel, Biology Major and LMU class of ’27, who successfully completed a “30 for 30” fundraising challenge for ALS research, education, screening and treatment, achieving his goal of becoming an Iron Phi! By supporting personal athletic goals, Iron Phi is building a community of philanthropists dedicated to the fight against ALS. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Cy set off to run a mile around LMU’s campus every hour for 30 hours straight. With the support of his fellow students, who dutifully sat with him while he rested, ensured he stayed hydrated, and even tagged along for a few of the miles, Cy exceeded his goal!

“My grandmother was a renowned pediatric radiologist who was affected by a neurodegenerative disease. She believed that research could change outcomes for the better and she was truly an inspiration to me. It would be amazing if no one ever had to experience neurodegenerative diseases like ALS. As an athlete, I wanted to use my skill set to raise awareness and support for this cause. We’ve truly blown our expectations out of the water, and I couldn’t be more grateful!” - Cy Teruel.
