Media Arts and Culture major Amare Askerneese ’26 experienced his first international travel with a semester abroad, studying filmmaking in England—an opportunity made possible thanks to the Oxy Fund.

This push outside his comfort zone allowed Amare to realize he wants to "create films that speak to universal experiences that anyone can identify with." He's now preparing to teach formerly-incarcerated students the art of filmmaking through Oxy's Undergraduate Research Center this summer.

Last night, the Atlantic staff writer and bestselling author Tom Nichols spoke to a near-capacity crowd in Choi Auditorium as the 2025 Jack Kemp '57 Distinguished Lecturer. Expanding on the themes of his two most recent books, "The Death of Expertise" and "Our Own Worst Enemy," Nichols discussed the weaponization of expertise in popular culture and the "anti-democratic" movement in the middle class.
