Join us for HUC-JIR Library's Fall Lecture Series by Zoom. You can participate in these learning opportunities from wherever you are, and gain insights and scholarship from world-renowned scholars who specialize in a variety of topics.

This month we will have the pleasure of learning from Rabbi Dalia Marx, PhD, the Rabbi Aaron D. Panken Professor of Liturgy and Midrash at HUC-JIR's Taube Family Campus in Jerusalem. Her class is titled "Eating Your Blessings: The Special Rosh HaShanah Meal" and will take an in-depth look at the customs and liturgy associated with the symbolic foods eaten on Rosh HaShanah. You can read more about Rabbi Marx's research and publications on her new website, https://www.dalia-marx.com/.

The lecture begins at 12:30 pm Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, September 17th. Register for this event at: huc.edu/marxblessings to get updated with Zoom information before the event.

The Me’am Lo’ez commentary on Ecclesiastes, by R. Nissim Moshe Aboud, Istanbul, 1897. At the bottom of the title page, the printer is given as Nomismatides, a Greek name, a reminder that Istanbul (among other cities in the wider Levant, like Alexandria) once had a large and thriving Greek community, with whom the Jews lived side by side and often worked together. A reminder of the Levantine diversity and tolerance which once defined these cities and the Middle East in general, prior to the rise of militant nationalism and religious fundamentalism.
