Take A Drag 3.5: The Virtual Experience - Sue Sidal
Take A Drag 3.5: The Virtual Experience brings you our third student feature: Sue Sidal (@traknee)! Join us on May 22nd, from 8-10 pm PST to witness Sue and Bruin Royalty lip sync for their lives! RSVP today: https://tinyurl.com/TaDTickets
Video text: Hey!! My name is Sue Sidal and my instagram is @traknee. What drag means to me and how it has impacted me is that it made me more comfortable with myself. As a transgender woman, I struggled with finding comfortability within myself because of things like gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia. Drag let me express myself without any apologies! I can do whatever the F*CK I want and be my alien self that I feel like I am. I can transform however I want like into a wig wearing horse to a gorgeous inter-dimensional alien demon. I love drag so much. How drag has impacted society is that it showed society how we live on a spectrum NOT in a binary world! Drag is for anyone and everybody! The fact that anyone can do drag just shows how much we live on a spectrum.
Take A Drag 3.5: The Virtual Experience - Valley Gyrl
Take A Drag 3.5: The Virtual Experience brings you our second student feature: Valley Gyrl (@valley.gyrl)! Join us on May 22nd, from 8-10 pm PST to witness Valley Gyrl and Bruin Royalty lip sync for their lives! RSVP today: https://tinyurl.com/TaDTickets
Video text: *tongue pop* Oh hi! Didnāt see ya there. My nameās Valley, Valley Gyrl. Iām a 21 year old fashion queen finishing up her first year here at UCLA! So just to tell you a bit about Valley Gyrl, sheās a look queen. Sheās a fashion queen. She always cares about looking her best and putting on a good show and giving everyone a good time! Umm. She always cares about being authentically herself. Very artsy, fashion-forward, thoughtful, thrifty, she loves a good discount! And Iām honor of her home in the San Fernando valley, she even has that vocal fry to accompany her voice - We love it!
But at the end of the day, whatās most important to valley Gyrl is that everyone at her show, seeing her perform, seeing her post on Instagram, is having a good day, feeling the love that theyāre supposed to feel and just is happy. Just feel good.
To me, drag is so much bigger than just putting on clothes you wouldnāt normally wear. Itās about community and drag is this beautifully vibrant community of gifted and talented and smart smart smart individuals who are so creative and so innovative in what they do. And for me to have any part of being with that, would be just such an honor.
I believe to the larger society, drag is often looked at as a man dressing up in womenās clothing and then jumping around a stage, when in reality drag is so much more than that. Itās people from all walks of life and all identities coming together to do a form of self expression. Itās political and itās beautiful and itās active and itās engaging and itās exactly what art should be.
I genuinely canāt put into words how much drag has changed my life and even though Iāve only been doing this for about 2-3 mo

UCLA LGBT CRC Spark Campaign!
It's an exciting day for us here at the LGBT CRC! Not only did Take A Drag tickets sell out, but it's the first day of our SPARK fundraising campaign! https://spark.ucla.edu/LGBTCRC
The Center provides support to the UCLA community with very limited university funding. By giving to this Spark campaign, you will be addressing the needs of LGBTQIA students and will expand the scope of resources and programs provided by the Center to the UCLA community.
Your donations will go directly to addressing barriers our students face and providing them with opportunities to develop into effective leaders. Our $10,000 goal will provide resources to cover food, housing, transportation, school materials, and other critical needs for students in times of crisis; empower students to design and lead their own projects to serve their communities and fellow students; and provide opportunities for students to attend national and regional conferences where they can interact with leading experts and organizations.
We're so grateful to have reached 16% of our goal today, but we still have a long way to go! Even $1 makes a difference. Thank you so much for your support!
Our speakers were so enthusiastic yesterday they couldn't stay in their seats! Thanks to all who attended Translating Your Student Activism Into a Career and our lovely panelists!
