Only two hours left to make your mark this Giving Tuesday! ✨There’s still time to show your support by making a gift to light a candle in our Grotto. Every gift counts— Together, SAINTS LIGHT THE WAY! 🌟

12/03/2024

It’s Giving Tuesday, Saints! Fr. Kevin Mullen '75, O.F.M., Ph.D. invites you to join us in a beloved Siena tradition—lighting candles at the Grotto. Every gift made today sparks a flame of hope, prayer, and intention. For every gift received, a candle will be lit at the Grotto. Together, let’s light all the candles and show the power of radical generosity in action. Because together, Saints light the way to a brighter future. Make your gift today and help us reach our goal by the end of Giving Tuesday! 💛💚

Andrew Budris ’96 was inspired by his time as a Saint to serve others through teaching. “My time at Siena was truly transformative for me,” he says. “When I arrived in 1992, within days, I met so many people I still consider some of my closest friends. The professors were so engaging and nurturing. I loved my Political Science and Education courses especially.”

Andrew says the Franciscan emphasis on serving others was exemplified in education and Siena helped him see that. As he continued to follow his passion for teaching over the past 27 years, Andrew received numerous awards and recognitions for his hard work and commitment to teaching.

Just last month, Andrew was recognized by the National Council for the Social Studies with the distinguished 2023-2024 Secondary Teacher of the Year Award. This is the second impressive award Andrew has earned for his teaching. He has also been recognized by the New York State Council for the Social Studies with the Distinguished Outstanding High School Social Studies Classroom Teacher Award.

Andrew has been the lead teacher of his department for 14 years, ran a marathon for Alzheimer’s research, volunteered as a coach in local youth sports, and is currently working on finishing his doctorate degree in education at Hofstra University. Andrew feels blessed by his career as an educator.

We commend Andrew for all of his success as a Saint who doesn’t sit on the sidelines!

Ashley Jeffrey Bouck ‘04, says her Siena experience ignited her passion for involvement within the Capital Region. “I got to learn first-hand how impactful nonprofit work can be. I have carried these values of taking care of our community, and especially servant leadership with my team, in my 20 years of nonprofit work.” Ashley took two internships while at Siena, including at Albany Medical Center and at ACOG (the American College of OBGYNs), and encourages incoming Saints to take advantage of every career exploration opportunity.

She says, “Siena and the Franciscan values opened my eyes to the fact that you could marry your passion and purpose and that nonprofit work was a true career opportunity.” Recently, Ashley was named to The Albany Business Review’s 2023 Power 50: New Momentum. She is currently the first female CEO of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. Before being surrounded by furry friends, she worked for the American Cancer Society, as Director of Prevention and Early Detection, as well as a staff partner for the Siena Relay For Life, and as the youngest Executive Director of Girls Inc of the Greater Capital Region.

Ashley says that Siena was her “home away from home” in which she made lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for her successes through dedication, volunteer work, and internships.

We congratulate Ashley on her accomplishments as a Saint who doesn’t sit on the sidelines!
