Members from the Rotterdam Needs Assessment, Radix, and Medicinal Plants SPIn teams all shared their experiences and research at CURCA’s Poster Session earlier this month!

We were also excited to see so many other ACE members presenting on their research with other faculty through CURCA, including Drishti, Lesia, and Charlie! We are always proud when our members take up opportunities to engage in experiential learning through ACE and other departments as well.

Want to learn more about ACE’s experiential learning opportunities? Come to Standish Library, room L02, on 10/30 at 6pm to consider how to be a Research and Consultation Fellow in our Nonprofit Excellence and Transformation program!

I graduated from Siena and the Bonner Program in 2022 with a degree in Sociology! The Bonner Program was incredibly impactful, shaping my time at Siena. Most of my work as a Bonner focused on food justice. Through the program, I was a part of a SPIn project during the summer of 2021 that focused on an urban farming initiative at Albany Victory Gardens (AVG). My team and I had the opportunity to get to know the community members who worked with AVG and we observed the strong connections they had to each other and the mission of the organization. As a sociology major, I was interested in understanding what motivated these community members to engage with this organization and its mission. Through interviews with urban farmers, I learned that the driving force behind their work was the community they had supporting them and the connections they had created with others through the process. It has become a lesson to me within community work and in life. People have the ability to make an impact when they build connections with others.

This research experience and the Bonner Program brought me to a group of incredible friends and mentors and led me to find a passion for community work and social justice. After graduation, I worked at the Regional Food Bank, leading food drive initiatives. Currently, I’m working in the Community Engagement office at Union College, connecting students with opportunities throughout the Capital Region. As a Bonner, I learned the importance of incorporating service learning into higher education and I’m happy to be continuing to work in this space as a new professional!

Erin

The Center for Civic Learning and Action (CCLA) at Dickinson College seeks an Operations Coordinator. This is a great role for a recent graduate with aspirations to work in community engagement or higher education or someone looking to change careers/make their way in a different field. This colleague would take leadership in office operations, communications and website administration, and event management and programmatic support, with opportunities to grow in community outreach efforts, campus engagements, and special projects based on the candidate’s interests and strengths. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible role that operates on campus at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA—a close-knit community in central PA with a deep network of social services and nonprofit leaders. The Operations Coordinator would be directly supervised by Samantha Ha (Bonner Alum, Ursinus College) and would join our mighty and purposeful staff of four in the CCLA.

The priority deadline for application review is Monday, October 28th at 9:00am. The full listing is here: https://jobs.dickinson.edu/postings/7769
