Wondering what all those projects happening around campus are all about? Besides the LSEB going up, here is a round down of smaller projects happening now and over the next few weeks:
- Colgan Hall is getting a new roof (that's the source of tar smell)
- Katherine Johnson Hall - the windows are being weatherproofed to prevent leaks
- Katherine Johnson Hall will be getting a new roof (more tar smells to come)
- Discovery HLL - leaky window seals are being removed/repaired
- Sidewalks - broken or uneven concrete sidewalks are being removed and repaired as needed
- Asphalt - repairs as needed, plus Canon Creek will be restriped

Contractors will be on site between Feb. 24 and Mar. 6 to HydroVac the roof of Colgan Hall. This involves using a vacuum to remove rocks and gravel from the entire roof. This process can potentially cause loud noise. Work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Today’s features Allison Tomson, Instructor, GMU Department of Biology, GeorgeSquared Advance Biomedical Sciences Program. Tomson has written and published multiple Anatomy and Physiology lab manuals for the Biology department. When she’s not in the classroom teaching, she performs cadaver dissections and presentations to various groups at NOVA Community College. honey bees could help solve police cases? 🐝 An unlikely collaboration between George Mason University’s Honey Bee Initiative and the new Forensic Science Research and Training Laboratory could yield critical advances in forensic science. Tonight at 6:30 pm! Don't miss the first in a series of opportunities for the public to learn about and weigh in on the Data Center Opportunity Zone Overlay District Comprehensive Review. Being held Jan. 20, this Community Meeting with the Planning Department will take place at George Mason University - Science and Technology Campus; residents can also participate virtually. To offer a safer environment for all who wish to attend, in-person attendees must follow GMU's public health protocols:

✅ Registration is required, to ensure that event does not go over permitted capacity. (Virtual attendance is also available.)
✅ A mask is required for all attendees. (A filtration mask, such as N95, KN95, or KF94, provide the best protection against Omicron.)
✅Attendees must complete a “Mason COVID Health Check” prior to the event. (Please note: The requires an free account with George Mason. Creating an accounts in advance of the meeting will allow time for any technical issues.)

The comprehensive review is meant to allow residents and the Board of County Supervisors to make informed decisions around data centers in Prince William. Study criteria include evaluation of environmental and fiscal impacts, opportunity costs of data centers compared to other uses, and trends regarding sustainability and improved aesthetics of facilities. The Board also tasked staff with ongoing stakeholder outreach--tomorrow's meeting will be the first in a series of opportunities for public engagement.
