On this day in 1813, a monumental event in the history of Freemasonry occurred—the formation of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). This historic milestone was achieved through the union of two Grand Lodges that had been operating independently at the time:

1️⃣ The Premier Grand Lodge (established in 1717), often referred to as the “Moderns”.
2️⃣ The Ancient Grand Lodge (established in 1751), known as the “Antients”.

After years of differences in practice, ritual, and administration, the two Grand Lodges set aside their disagreements to form a single, unified body. This unification marked the beginning of a new era for Freemasonry in England and beyond.

The Articles of Union were signed, and on 27th December 1813, the United Grand Lodge of England was officially established during a special meeting held at Freemasons’ Hall in London. The date was deliberately chosen to coincide with the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, one of the two patron saints of Freemasonry.

Since its founding, UGLE has grown to become one of the most recognised Masonic governing bodies in the world, overseeing thousands of Lodges and upholding the core principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.

Today, as we celebrate UGLE’s 211th anniversary, we reflect on its rich heritage, enduring traditions, and the unifying spirit that has guided Freemasonry for centuries.

The Christmas Parade in Jackson, MI with Jackson Lodge #17 & St. Nicholas Lodge # 12 PHA. Both GL & PHA Grandmasters Abbaticchio & Walker were there to walk with us and this has become a joint event we all look forward to every year with our Lodges!
